How much of an improvement should I expect from the Lyr 2 coming from the E11K? Listening on DT770Pro 250OHMS.

Truth is, I am looking at those pretty tubes

Before I spend that amount of cash/debit, what are your thoughts on this HP amp?

Hey buddy! You should expect a couple improvements from that upgrade.

For one, the Lyr isn't the warmest, tubiest amp, but it does add some some great midrange and detail to the sound. It made the bass on some of my cans a bit more solid. The Lyr 2 is an amazing value of an amp that you can use for just about your entire gear collection and for the rest of your audio journey! The Lyr 2 will give your DT 770s a more forward mid range, and much more power than your fiio meaning it can get much louder and with the right tubes, can mellow the treble a bit and add a bit to the low end. Very likable sound.

I say it isn't worth the upgrade if your only cans are the DT770. I would go with a cheaper tube amp. If you see yourself getting much more and better headphones in the future, then these can power every one and works well with most and will easily bring more changes with headphones that need it HE500, HD650, etc.

Hope this helps!

Sounds to me future proof for the next few years except whenever needed the tubes changed or upgraded.

Could the tubes be upgraded on this unit?

nvm on the tube upgrade question.

Roll Your Own Sound
Like Lyr, Lyr 2 lets you "roll" many different tube types to your own preference. Use 6BZ7, 6DJ8, 6922, ECC88, 2492, and many other tube types to get your perfect sound.

Looks like two thumbs up to me. I will now research and/or ask some questions into tubes.

I am completely new to this.

I got mine on a whim, it's a beast of an amp, It'll power pretty much any headphone going with room to breath. I love the sound, I'm waiting on the BiFrost Uber, then, when I have a decent base level of DAC/Amp, I'm going to plough head first into buying more headphones!

Sure no problem! It is quite a bit to wrap your head around but it is cool to be able to customize your sound a bit. When people imagine amps changing or adding something to the sound of their headphones, tube amps are where its at. Solid states should be neutral.

If you're heart is set on the Lyr, check the Lyr tube rolling thread! I never found tube rolling as addicting as others have, but then again I found the right tubes for me quite quickly.

Enjoy, buddy.
