- Vs. the Lotoo Paw Gold with the SE846
I just bought the Lotoo, which I fell in love with in terms of form factor and sound. Yes I love the small size and spartan UI. It is just for music, no hassle, no bug. And the sound is the most engaging I heard from a DAP.
I have comparing them with my test tracks on the 846, with the Lotoo on low gain.
These two players have a completely different form factor, one is short and thick with minimal UI, the other is long and fairly thin with Android. These things alone will lead people to chose one or the other. And of course there is price: the Lotoo comes at 1500$ AT THE CHEAPEST, more often 2k$, i.e. four times the price of the X7. Is it worth it when compared to the X7? Of course not. But people don't necessarily think like that. I just wanted to have the Lotoo.
Soundwise they have quite a different character, but they are less different than the AK240SS vs. the Lotoo. The X7. The X7 might have a slightly wider and more airy soundstage, but the Lotoo has more better depth and a more refined and layered sound. These are really subtle differences, but which are important at this level. The key difference is that the Lotoo has more power and authority. The bass goes deeper and is more sustained. This could certainly be different with a different amp card on the X7.
All in all, I have a preference for the Lotoo, but is small, and the price gap is huge. Of course for people who value a flexible UI, the X7 will blow the Lotoo out of the water.
No idea.Hello Mimouille,
Thank you for the impressions. Do you know what exactly has changed with the new firmware update, and if there are planning to release other.ExFat support will be really good,if possible to be added.
My new 256 sandisk card works but access times are crazy. Any idea if the new firmware did this?
Got PAW Gold a few days ago, so expect a review sometime soon...
One question, I assume there is no way to control playback (play/pause and change tracks) when screen is off? With PAW 5000 you can long press vol buttons to skip tracks, obviously not possible with Gold. Wish there would be a way to control it with screen off...
In terms of sound quality, I need more time for a critical listening, but I can hear it being positioned between L5 Pro (lower mids body, smoother/musical) and LP5 Gold (more reference quality with neutral sig) since it has a little bit of each trade. The heft of PG feels nice in your hand, but I'm not quite sure if I would feel comfortable to carry it in the pocket outside. I assume DIGNIS is the best option for a case?
Hi Twister6.
Looks like Dignis make nice quality leather case for the Paw.Congratulations for yours. Is a serious music player, and yes you can take it out with you. I used to take mine and keep in in my pocket, it may be thick and heavy ( 280 g )but is very small.
Also it does get warm especially when playing DSD but i don't think you need to worry about.
What headphones are you using with it?

So, I take it as there is no way to control playback when screen is off?
Right now I'm using Savant and ES60 (btw, posted ES60 comparison pics per your request in W60 thread, review should be sometime soon).
Thank you sir
Maybe i should forget about full size headphones LCD-XC and get into ES60 area.
