Dunu TITAN Series (new for 2019: Titan 6) [Page 196]

Got the Titan 3s last night. After being very impressed at first hearing all the detail from the prominent mids I got less impressed as i jumped between song choices. I feel these are very hit and miss as you go song by song, not genre by genre. For me it was 50/50 every time i changed song. Some songs seem really out of balance and congested, others you can't help but smile at the details they bring out in the mids. It's hard to explain but they focus that much on mids it can make some songs seem like they are bent out of shape and missing details. It can make for an 'interesting' listen sometimes but they haven't done it for me personally.

I'm returning them and buying the Dn200Js. Still got my Titan 1s to keep me happy.

Hey guys,

It's that time of the year again for me when I am in need of headphones and now i am back to browsing head-fi. This time around i understand that i need an iem since ill be commuting in my country (Philippines) via jeeps, mrt, lrt and buses , and im pretty sure that my over ear headphones would be soaking wet if i chose to use them.

I have made my decision, sound-wise, that i want to purchase the Dunu titan 3s when i tried it in the store together with the titan 5s. For me, the bass was overall better and more noticeable with the t5s compared to the t3s. However, t3s got my vote because of the clearer mids and a more balanced sound without losing much of the quality of the bass. The voices of Passenger and Nate Ruess really shined as i played their songs.

The dilemna for me now, and why my wallet still has money in it: i want to use the iems i will purchase in the gym when i workout. A quick search in the thread gave me mixed results. There were some anecdotes that said they use them when working out and on the other hand there are people who say that the vents at the back may cause problems when you sweat.

Can anybody help me with this dilemna? Anyone who has owned the t3s and have used them in the gym or in working out found any problems?

I just really want them to last since, for me, they are an expensive pair. It would also give me comfort knowing that i can safely use it when i workout. Or else, ill be resorting to the popular jaybird x2s or jbl reflect mini bts.

I wear my Titan 1s out running all the time, even in hot weather. They have more more vent holes. I wear them with Comply tips and they stay in place perfect. I've never had problems with sweat interfering causing them to slip or adversely effecting the sound in any way. Hope that helps.

It is a bit of a niche tuning. The lack of presence in highs is a bit of a disappointment. The titan 5 falls on the opposite trap where the beautiful mids struggles between the highs and big bass...but when the recording is right... Titans becomes a force to be reckoned with!

If you have Titan 5s, you have to get spinfit tips. They absolutely make the tuning the the 5s fantastic and the Titan 1 also benefits as well. Not so much on the 3s however.

I actually enjoyed the Spinfit with the titan 3 actually - brought more coherence between the bass and strong mids. Again, everyone's anatomy will give different results. Ymmv.

The Titan 1 doesn't pair very well with the SpinFit tips. The Comply TS200 sounds way better than the SpinFit. It smooths out the high frequency peaks without losing detail and extension. YMMV.

To me the Titan 1s didn't have that high frequency peaks but yea everyone needs to try a set to see if it's for them. I'll try Comply's on them but not too fond of not being an easy on/off (when putting on properly).

Hmm... the spinfits really made the treble too much on the 3s I thought.

Me neither. I've mainly converted to buds (VE buds to be precise), but when I throw in an iem, it's usually the Titan1's. No high frequency peaks for me (then again, I'm not 20 years old lol). Listening to Radiohead's latest "A Moon Shaped Pool" with them today was rather glorious experience. They rock (and that album is pretty cool).

I would concur with both of you. The Comply's work really well in my Titan 1's. The Spinfits are nice, just not for me. Bright, airy and fun are the 1's. I still use them often, even with my Monk's (+, too) and P1's in my stable.

I did the exact same thing yesterday, also with the Titans (1ES). Then I watched some Seinfeld with them.

I also use foam tips on them (not Complys, I'm using the ones supplied with the Hisound BA100s) as it's really the only way to get a shallower fit, while still having a seal secure enough to not have them fall out. And this way, the earphone body, and that sharp edge on the ear-facing side, does not touch the ears. And, I get a chance to use foam tips. I hardly ever get a chance to use foam tips.

Radiohead and Seifeld... what's not to like?

I'd try those BA100 foams if I had them. I can't use Complys for too long.

Something about the rear end of a cat

You know, my cat makes it's rear end known as well. So I think the conclusion to your statement is "makes itself obvious".

Yep. I sure love Seifeld.

The BA100 foams are a bit stiffer (read: cheap-feeling, like a lot of foam tips that come stock) than Complys or Olives. That might be good for some people. For instance, I don't even have to squeeze them for insertion. Speaking of Olives, I had some stems for foams that managed to fit the Titan nozzles, and put some de-cored Olives over them a while back. Comfy, but the Olive foam kept sliding off. Probably could have used some adhesive.

Btw the only Comply tips that I find sounding the best with the Titan 1 for me are the Comply TS200 tips not the T200 because the T200 rolls off too much of the high frequencies where as the TS200 tames the high frequency peaks without rolling off so much of the high frequencies. Btw, here's how the Comply TS200 look like....not the regular Comply T200 tips.
