VU meter in Patchmix DSP is still fluctuating, so i am assuming its the daughtercard. does anyone know where to get a replacement/repair on this? i bought it at a local guitar center...

Hopefully it's just like something that happened to me the other day...I started up my computer, started up foobar2000, and heard nothing. I double-checked to make sure I hit the Play button, then opened PatchMix, which showed all the bars fluctuating....

After trying a few things I opened up the Sounds control panel and noticed that the volume had been moved to zero for some reason. I moved it back up and everything was fine. Maybe you've checked this already, but thought I'd write up my experience in case you hadn't.

I have an EMU scare earlier this evening. Was listening to some vinyl clips via RealAudio when all of the sudden the volume dropped REAL low. Checked the mixer, and the output level was still peaking. Changed interconnects, didn't help. Turned everything off and back on, and still had almost no volume. So I moved both cards down a slot and reinstalled the drivers, and now it's back to normal. That was a close one!

i guess i will have to reinstall the card and see what happens. last nite i emailed the EMU tech support - this is a good chance to find out how good responsive their tech support is

I hope I'm not saying stuff you've tried already....

1) Try and see if the monitor is on mute or has its monitor level / volume at -132. (at right bottom of patchmix)

2) Be sure all the solo / mute buttons aren't checked red.

(above methods apply only if the bars are stuill fluctuating)

3) Load another Session, with another sample rate, or other "minimum" settings, and reload your previous settings....(wierd, but this happens when I use audio soft, such as Reason 2.5)

I've had problems too, but for now it has all been fixed by the above methods.

I was overwhelmed by fatigue after hours of attempts at fixing it; that included foobar at 192/96/44.1, wmp at 44.1 and creating a new session as well. unfortunately i am pretty possitive s/m buttons were unchecked... oh well

again, thx for suggestions, i will try reinstalling the card after i get out of school after 4pm..

Miko, remember to post your results here too! It's very frightening to even THINK of having my beloved E-MU dying on me.....

I assume you have already checked this, but..... Since the problem happened after you were inside your system unit, you might have knocked something loose. Have you checked to make sure that both cards are fully seated and that the cable from the "main" EMU board to the daughter card is connected? This is obvious stuff, I realize, but I think we often expect the worst when a system component fails, and it's always good to try the easy fixes first!

Do let us know what you find - and also if tech support gives you any help. (I've never had much luck with Creative tech support - it would be nice to know that they have improved.) I, too, have the EMU1212m card, and would hate to think there was a problem with quality control!

alright guys, looks like its my day today... beer is on me, who wants some?

all i did was removing the driver/patchmix dsp and reinstalling them... sometimes things are much simpler than you think they are

i am still curious how long EMU tech support is gonna take getting back to me tho...

Ucck... not only is Creative Labs known for poor drivers, but here we have early, poor drivers...
frown.gif

I knew there was a reason (aside from OS issues) why my intuition's been telling me to wait awhile before making the leap. You guys under 30 can deal with this stuff, I'm just getting too old for that nonsense...

Fewtch man, I think you're just trying to make yourself feel better about not making the jump...

Just get one already...

Replace "jump" with "leap" and we'll start calling you Karl Jaspers

Tell ya what, buy me one and if I'm that impressed I'll pay you back in full (two separate payments, if you'd accept it) and send you a couple free CD's as thanks. If not I'll mail it back to you for return to where you got it, or resale to someone else. A serious audition is the only way I'd even consider it at this point, so if you're that intent on getting me to try it...
biggrin.gif

It would have to be so much better than my M-Audio AP 2496 that I'd be willing to basically switch OS's, give up some older/useful software and put up with driver hassles just to be able to listen to music. I am deeply suspicious that the differences are just not that huge, no matter how many people wax eloquent. If you guys are so determined to prove me wrong, help me audition it for the price of shipping and (if you're right and it's the best thing since sliced bread) split the payments over July/August so it's not a big blow to my badly thrashed bank account.

If this is too much to ask, could someone loan me theirs for about a week if I pay shipping here and back? Preferably someone on the West coast, so everything is fast and smooth. I do want to hear it, but just can't drop $165-$200 right now. I am absolutely, obsessively honest and punctual to the point of insanity about this sort of thing.

Guys, leave him alone.

But, fewtch, I personally don't call that poor early driver. It is more on hardware compatibility issue.

Remember, not everyone having the same problem as him.
