Hi Everyone - I currently have a set of Sennheiser HD558s and love them.  I used to have a Fiio E10 (Olympus) that I loved for DAC/Amp with a bass-boost feature.  The headphone jack recently broke on the unit and I'd like to upgrade.

I'm a fan of how the Fiio E10 sounded, but I wouldn't buy from them again --- poor quality IMO (broke within a few months).

Any recommendations greatly appreciated!  I'm thinking of the Schiit Magni/Modi combo, but don't know if they'll have any benefits on bass.

Thanks!

For headphone like the Sennheiser HD558s, I would not spend any more then what a E10K ($75) would cost.
Otherwise it might better to sell off the HD558 and put all your audio budget into new headphones.
Are you using the E10 or E10K?

Get the Magni/Modi if you have plans to upgrade headphones. Purpleangel idea is good.

I use the Fiio E17 to drive the 598 and it is great. I get your reservations about Fiio, but the E17 is a much, much better product and it works great with this line of Senns.

I haven't tried the Modi/Magni combo, but I do own other Schiit gear, and it has never disappointed. I think they make really great stuff. Would probably be a solid investment.

I'd also reccomend checking out the Aune T1 thread. I thought it sounded great with the HD598, plus it gives you the option of upgrading the tube or capacitors to tune the sound to your liking. And it will drive anything up to 600 ohms... Even some easy-to-drive orthos if you get the itch to upgrade.
