SONY NW-ZX2

  ZX1 is about 62.000 yen / $ 510 in japan right now with second hands falling even to $400. Check yahoo auctions for that. It seems obvious that in the near future we'll see many cheap(er) ZX1's in the market.

And my expectations are quite high about ZX2. It will probably have a less sterile / more natural sound tuning with a touch of warmth, good extension in both ways, and with a resolution between ZX1 and Hifiman 901, but probably clearer than both with a portion of Sony's mainstream fun-sound.

Besides, I think Sony would have possibly overcome the thinning problem of sound in higher volumes in both F880 series and ZX1. When I was using my japanese F886, after a certain stage of volume increase, it was becoming obvious that mids and treble was pushed up, but not the base, making the sound too forward and thin. I did not yet encountered this problem on my new japanese A16 which carries a stronger internal amp than F880 series.

you use that imaginative fortune telling talent of yours on the stock market too?
RIP Paul the octopus, you were the best.

 sony always expresses the max output in specs with weird crap like "20+20mw". it's the most ludicrous way to express max output I've ever seen(for 1%distortion? with what load?...), but at least they seem to stick to it so you can know where you are from one model to the next.
F880 was given as 10+10mW
zx1=15+15
A10=10+10
F806= 5+5
so I don't know what you're talking about for the 880 and zx1 going thin, but maybe don't blame power for it if you don't feel it on the A10? the A10 certainly doesn't carry a stronger internal amp. it's a very weak DAP(I love it more every day, but it's true).
for the A10, max voltage is about 0.4volt, so to get a 10mw value that should be tested into 16ohm? even if the weird way to give specs meant we could double the power compared to other specs(?????) a simple FIIO X1 can get 100mw into 16ohm, or 65mW into 32ohm. the X5 offers 460mW into 16ohm and 255 into 32ohm, just to give an idea of what a "stronger internal amp" actually means.

it's not a problem and I think anybody used to sony has an external amp for any hard to drive headphones already, we're used to it. just thought you could do with a little reality check in those more than speculative posts.
and given the size of the screen and the estimated battery life, I can foretell that the ZX2 will not output 2watt either.

Does anyone know what DAC it has,how they managed such a long playback time,unless has very low output abd DSD is converted to PCM right?

Sony's own DAC chip, no idea what it's called.

for my previous "fortunetelling" record, you can take a look at my fiio x3 and ibasso dx50 estimations before their release : ) I know, these are mostly empty talk, but have some kind of strange fun inside. hyping.

I am with you in your comments about Sony specifications, and their ambiguity. Yet I am talking purely on my experience and testing. Both with Grado Hf-1 and Audio Technica Esw9, my Japanese F886 became thin and agressive sounding after a level of volume. I've also seen this case in some forums about F886. I attributed this to the weakness of the internal amp, but there can be another explanation for that.

I did not experience this on A16 (again Japanese) and found that it was driving Grado and Audio Technica marginally, yet AKG Q701 considerably better than F886. This is from A-B testing, but I'll check again. assuming that the internal amps on F880 and A10 series are exactly the same, something must be different. cause sound signature is different, and driving power "seems to be" also different. Output impedance difference maybe?

Btw, when I said "stronger amp" I mean in the predictable relativeness of the amps of Sony walkmans. In normal conditions, it is really weak compared to Chinese powerhouse daps certainly.
