SONY NW-ZX2

I went to the Sony site to purchase the extended warranty but the $59.95 three year coverage is for devices that cost between $400 and $1000 (the ZX2 is $1200) and it is not linked to a specific device. I'm going to call them tomorrow to clarify how the coverage works but I'd appreciate any input from anyone who has the coverage and has spoken to an actual live person. I'm obviously overthinking this but I do find the fact that the coverage is not device specific to be a little confusing. I'd just like to know that it will cover my ZX2.

I'm not sure if you have clicked on that "Smart phone" thing rather than " Portable Electronic" , it clearly states covering something over 1000$ :|

I selected "portable electronics" and the maximum was $400-1000. I'm more concerned that it is not device specific. What if I owned three new devices--are all three covered (no flames please--I know it's single device coverage) or is it based on first claim? I don't think these are unreasonable questions and I definitely don't want to be surprised if I ever have a claim. Just sayin....

Extended warranty for the ZX2 is sold as premium service, and belong within the section as ZX series.
too bad in Hong Kong it cost HKD 590 (approximate USD 76) for 1 year only.

This is for Hong Kong and can be different in other countries.

Only within the same region, Sony does not offer global warranty.

There is nothing in the terms and conditions of the extended warranty that state products purchased outside your home country are not covered.

Check the warranty detail for the ZX 2.

  Guys,
Can anybody just give me a brief comparison between ZX2 and AK240?
Come on

Very brief...I've got the AK240, Shure SE846 combo. I've got a pair of Layla and Angie's here that I am demo'ing. I just got the ZX2 on Friday. I haven't used the SE846 at all with the ZX2. With the Layla and Angie's I find the ZX2 to have a much warmer sound with no EQ and both the Layla and Angie set to 1:00 on the adjustable pots. The AK240 just has a better clarity to it for me right now and the music I listen to. More to come...I WANT to like the ZX2 better, but so far I keep plugging the AK240 in.

Since the documentation I received is only in Japanese and I don't read Japanese, I'll have to check with Sony tomorrow. Luckily, the extended warranty can be cancelled within 60 days of purchase.

You need to specify that your ZX2 is a Japan version purchased in Japan, and has a Japan warranty, it's strange why Sony US don't ask for more details.

Give the zx2 proper running in time, it's essential for the DAP to come to life.

You need at least 100 hours burn in for ZX2 to sound great, and 200 hours to completely burn-in. Only 50 hours or so is not thing yet.

My guess is either for the extended warranty it doesn't matter, or it's an oversight in their system that they don't ask for more detailed information in the extended warranty sign up process. Either way I'll find out tomorrow and report back here.

Sony are very strict with warranty policy, and will reject the repair when you try to claim.
This is how they control pricing as well, (it stopped me going offshore).

You may be right, we'll see. As I said, if they don't offer the extended warranty after all, then I get my money back for the policy. Either way I'm fine with it.

Now question about it IMO, the ZX2 really needs burn in. Believe in it or not, many have heard the difference and to me it is not small as the sound quality improves in all areas.

I wonder how long these caps are good for - we have burn in, logically with caps (especially small ones), we'll have burn (or, rather - dry) out...

Limited life span maybe?!

I would expect at least a 15 to 20 years before possible failure, (for the electrolytic substance in the capacitors to dry up) , or the value of the components to be so far out of specifications, other components in the circuit will fail.
This generally happens long after the battery, or time gets the better of it, and your enjoying the new gadget. Or often the gadget will just stop.
