Brand new to the site and though I would never consider referring to myself as an audiophile - I am a music lover and appear to be in way over my head.

I am currently pairing my A&K 100II with the FiiOE17 and so far so good. Since I am an old man - and I know my hearing isn't what I used to be - I have had insignificant experience behind a mixing board - running sound for a Regional Band as well as a few local community theaters during the past 12 years or so. (Twenty -four channel mixing boad does not a sound engineer make - not in any way.)
Currently, I am pairing my A&K with the E17 with my I-Grados  for when I walk as well as with my Denon 2000's for when I am lying in bed. Using the baby grados so that if I fall, I won't be busing up a pair of $1800 headphones as with the Audeze.

Not sure if this is important but I will mention that I do hot have the ability to get anywhere to audition headphones since I am the one in a million or what my surgeon and Doctor state as the only person -without a hip - that can still walk, albeit with crutches or a walker. I mention this so that any person kind enough to respond will understand that I unfortunately, need to make any purchase I consider - on the kind advice of others much more knowledgeable in this area.

Current setup - A&K100 II with the E17 plus Denon 2000. I am desiring to upgrade my sound by purchasing better headphones. Tops on my list , atm, is the Audeze LCD-XC for the punchy bass that I like - and the Fostex THD900 for the same reason.. Please forgive this uninitiated person for sounding stupid.

It has taken me 62 years to discover both Rush and Dream Theater but I also enjoy The Mass by Bernstein as well The Marriage of Figaro. Kid Rock's Devil Without a Cause is also a favorite of mine. As far as Rush and DT - no doubt it is the rhythm section for both groups that ring my bell. The double kick with the rest of the percussion (ranging from wood blocks to the nice heavy floor toms and the Crash Sabians that many artist are currently using are important to me. If I can't hear Portnoy or Peart riding the hat - what's the sense? Hatfield and the North and Mister Spock's Beard is where I intend to continue my journey.

Finally my question: Simple for you - not so simple for me. Audeze LCX-XC. Was going to go for the LCD-X till I discovered for an extra 100 dollars - the bass is cleaner. The price doesn't concern me here - the weight of the cans, however  - does. In reading reviews - I've read of the Fostex THD900 that also is know for a clean bass without getting muddy. Concerned about the Audeze due to their weight much more so than the price tag.

Any help or advice would be truly appreciated. If there are other cans out there that will let me 'feel' the bass as much as hear it -- I would consider it a favor if you would mention them by name. Please understand that I am in no way, a Beats fan. Auditory bottom with a complete roll off at the high end and maybe even middles - would no way be what I am hoping to achieve.

Hope I did this right - tough to be old and out of step. Any help sincerely appreciated. I decided I have been lurking long enough and am trying to resolve my problem by going to the experts.

If you have the time , please help and also - to steal a line from the movie Philadelphia - explain it to me like I'm a four year old. Thank you for any help in this matter.
