If I enjoy the sound of the Beyerdynamic T70p but would like a "little" more warmth and bass extension what could I get?

Budget? I'd say no more than $300 and perhaps a used pair of Beyerdynamic T70p
iPods, Cellphones, and PC with Fiio E18 and Teac UD-501 DAC/AMPs
I do want them to be closed back, and suitable for a variety of music including Classical and Jazz.

For example how does the AKG K545 compare?

Within your budget you can get warmer and maybe some bass extension, but you'll probably be giving up something else--absent a closeout or great Black Friday deal.

Take a look at the NAD VISO HP50 and PSB M4U 1:

I have not heard the K545, but know it runs about $190 to $250.

damn I want to hear the NADs. They seem like the NEW m100s this year in terms of their growing popularity.
NAD has ZERO footprint in Japan. Outside of just buying and important a pair I am SOL.
Funny 'cause I am looking to buy the Beyer t70 (250 ohm) to compliment my m100s.

Its been a while since I checked this thread, but I've tried about 10 headphones since then. And now I have the NAD HP50 coming my way. How would you say they compare to the T70p?
The closet I think to the T70P is the Brainwav HM5. The T70P just felt a little warmer compared to them.

So far it seems the T70p are in a class of there own without a serious competitor. I may have to just stick with them.

Not sure if one of the 10 you've tried is the Shure SRH1540.  If not that might be worth a shot.  I used to own a T70P and have since moved to the TH600.  Compared to the TH600, the SRH1540 has a couple of the qualities I liked about the T70P - bass that's deep, but not overpowering and clear/forward vocals.  I got rid of the T70Ps because they were too bright for me, and the SRH1540 does not have that problem for me.

This is just based on memory as I no longer have the T70Ps to compare to the SRH1540 directly.  FWIW, Amazon has the SRH1540 pretty regularly for ~$400 so they're fairly close to your budget.  Inner Fidelity has a good review of the SRH1540s if you're interested.

Thanks for the recommendation of the SRH-1540, they look real nice...my only reservation are the earpads. What the Beyerdynamic T70 and T90 have taught me is that velour earpads are very high maintenance . They collect dust, sweat, oils etc. and have to be cleaned often with warm water and detergent. Leather pads are far easier to maintain since they don't hold dirt and can be wiped off.
But I'd still like to try the SRH-1540. Do you know anything about the Master Dynamic MH40 or Oppo PM-3?

I've not heard the MH40 or PM-3.

On the SRH-1540 earpads the material isn't velour.  I have some old DT990s and know exactly what you mean.  The SRH-1540's pads are made of Alcantara, more details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcantara_(material).  It feels incredibly soft on your head and slightly rubberized when you run your finger against it.

I haven't spilled anything on them or sweated on them to know how stain resistant this is.  My pair is used, not sure for how long before the few weeks I've had them, The pads on the headphones look as new as the (I think) unused extra pair that come in the case.
