New to headphones and static

I just purchased BeatsStudio headphones.
 
I am more than satisfied with the audio quality, however, when the headphones are unplugged, there is a very low static-like noise.
 
Is this normal?

Inside some Beats headphones there is an active noise-canceling (ANC) circuit in there that might be causing it. Make sure it's turned off when not in use.

If that isn't the problem, it could be because the headphones seal and clamp so hard, any background noise gets muffled funny, or you're hearing your own blood flowing like when you put a shell by your ear and listen to the ocean. Just some ideas.
