Hey everyone,

I am on a quest to create a boombox with bluetooth capability. I have already the majority of parts to complete my DIY project. Currently this includes the following:

Left and Right speaker: Insignia S-SP213 2-way bookshelf speakers
I had these lying around at my house. They are small enough to be practical for my boombox. They're only 8 ohms unfortunately

Amplifer: Lepai LP-2020A+
It provides 20 watts per channel, or so they say. Which is not true because of the power supply provided. I have ordered a higher amperage one that will make these claims true or close to it.

Bluetooth receiver: Brightech - BrightPlay Home
This uses Bluetooth 4.0 with apt-x support along with a handy usb port for charging devices

I just want to point out that this is not a high-fi setup. I have a need for a bluetooth boombox so I am going to make one! :) That being said, I have already tested it out with the mentioned devices (minus a more powerful power supply). It sounds relatively clean thanks to the amp. I was a little surprised considering the amp was only $20. The one thing that's missing though is lower end frequency. These bookshelf speakers just don't provide it. So that's were my question starts.

What should I add to create more bass?

Since I am on a very tight budget, I was thinking of going to Goodwill and find a small subwoofer from an old computer speaker set. It will be preamplified so I won't need to worry about powering it. So if that's the way I go I'll get an audio splitter to send the signal to both speakers and subs. This will degrade the power of the signal right? I have a preamp for headphones, but it doesn't allow you to run it will being plugged in.

Another option is to find a smaller subwoofer that is NOT amplified and bridge it. This I think would introduce heat and maybe fry my device. I don't even know if this amp is powerful enough for such a setup.
