Hi all! :)

I just bought a LYR amp from the company Schiit...  So far, I'm loving it! :)

I was use to Sony MDR-CD380, yeah... Really old and CHEAP but well.. I bought a pair of PSB M4U2 for traveling 1 year ago and gave them a try on the Lyr... And that 40-50$ sony still has my vote when it come to compare both, mdr-cd380 vs m4u2... I know there's more detail in the PSB but it sounds more airy/spacy on the sony, also, i love the open style since I need to ear what's going on outside my headphones.

So, I like the sound of the Sony, a little bit less the PSB...  I now want to upgrade my headphone and dunno which one to choose. I hesitate between a pair of Grado RS2, Beyer DT880 or Seinnheiser HD600.

I did tried the Shure 940 but didn't like his style, was boring listening to... Yeah sure, it was detailed and so on but well... I weared them like 10-15 minutes and they didn't make me a WOWI Gotta have those one! I also tried the Audio Technica ATH-M50x and I find the highs too agressive for my taste. Too much sibilance.

Where I live, can't test the Grado/Beyer/Seinn without taking a 4 hours trip! Also, I dunno if I can find a dealer with Beyer... and buying online comes with an issue for returning them... Lot of online dealer and retail store have a "No headphone return policy".

I don't know if it can be of any help but... I did own a pair of B&W 802D for loudspeaker and I absolutely love the sound but well.. quite expensive to put another pair of those giants in my office so if I can find a headphone with a similar sound, that would be great! (and NO I don't want to buy the P7 from B&W, they s..)

I'll relay on your help to light my choice!

Thank you :)

I'm not sure exactly what the Sony heapdhones sound like, but I've tried the M4U2, DT880,HD600.

In order of brightness I'd put them as DT880, M4U2, HD600 - I like the DT880 but a lot of people find them a bit bright generally, me among them.

HD600 would be my pick - for me, anyway!

Full size headphones should be able to be returned, it's the in-ear ones which cause the hygiene concerns.

Thanks for the feedback Steve!

As for returning headphones... Yeah, here in Canada, it s... I guess it forces people to buy another one, it's good for the economy so... And I guess it was easier to forbid returns for all headphones, whatever kind they are. Funny when you think women can try a bikini or gstring... lol

As for the sound of the Sony, really more airy than the M4U2, it is also less vailed, more brightness than the M4U2 but, is it because of the open vs closed headphones feeling? I'm new digging into headphones...

Think I'll try to find a dealer who has the hd600 for demo
