Hi all, this is my very first post, I didnt ever imagine I would ever need to ask someone ANYTHING about a plain and simple pair of headphones !

I have a Sony 32" LCD Bravia TV KDL32W5810 which works absolutely fine, I thought the sound could be improved so I purchased a DENON DHT-T100 speaker base, which helped a little to improve the sound quality.

At this time the only way I could switch off the TV Speakers was by plugging some old headphones into the TV's headphone socket.

My Wife then started complaining that I wanted the Sound far too loud for her liking.

So I decided for the sake of peace and harmony that I could plug Headphones into the TV headphone socket and then I could have the volume to suit me, while the wife continued to listen to the TV via the Denon Speaker Box.

I visited my local John Lewis shop to try some out, and got myself a Sennheiser HD218i headset, (I didnt need the iPhone compatibility) I tried a demo model in the shop with my iPhone and the integral volume switch worked fine !

TROUBLE IS however, I cannot control the volume incoming from the TV headphone socket using the headphones integral volume switch !!!!!>

I have obviously purchased the wrong equipment ! or perhaps I need to purchase something else, like an Amplifier with a volume switch !!!.

I just dont know how to proceed at this moment in time !!!!  if someone here can advise I will be truly thankful :)

In your case you cannot control the volume of the TV from your headphone wire volume control. Not all headphone jacks are built the same. Most of them will work with an iPhone because most of them are Apple compatible. I have had many cases when the headphone volume control works perfectly fine with my iPad but wont work on my Android phone.

You can control the volume on your TV though. Or, if you and your wife are watching TV at the same time then I would suggest getting an amp with a gain control. While gain is not equal to a volume control it could certainly work in your case.

wows thank you so much, that looks as if I need something like that above, a  FiiO E06 Portable Headphone Amplifier  which I  found on amazon :)

I wonder do they make a Headphone with an amplifier already built in ?, and I wouldn't need it compatible with an iPhone !

A FiiO E06 should probably solve your volume problems. Happy listening

Not many and its obvious because its a bad idea. The power and weight will definitely be an issue. The one I know of is the Audio Technica ATH-OX7AMP headphones at almost 300 USD. Not worth it IMO; better to buy a discrete amp. An in-built amp is just a bad idea.
