Hello everyone!

I have been browsing the forum for some time now and finally created an account. I've been wanting to dive into the audiophile world but being a college student money is always tight but now I can say I can spend a little here and there to further my listening experience. I listen to all kinds of music but if I had to pick a genre or two that is above the rest I would say Rock and Hip Hop.

Current headphones/Equipment- ATH AD-700 and Sennheiser HD555 using w/ Xonar DX(not a bass head but would want an upgrade from my current setup)

As you can see, I am in need of an upgrade. Like I said earlier, I would like to get into furthering my experience and I can't think of a better place to start. I am not looking to break the bank anytime soon but I would love recommendations that would put me in the right direction. I am contemplating on purchasing the HD558(considering the HD598 or DT990 Pro) but have been receiving mixed reviews whether or not it is an upgrade from my current headphones. Of course, any recommendations of DACs or AMPS(or both)?

Thanks all!

Being a new guy myself, welcome to Head-Fi. If you are looking for headphones that have a natural sound and some bass, you need to check out the AKG Q701. These are similar to the K702 but with better bass. Believe it or not, the Q701s cost less than the K702s.

As for a headphone amp, I would recommend the Schiit Vali. If you need a DAC, check out the Schiit Modi. You can get both for under $220. The Vali is better suited for the AKGs.

The Q701 and a Schiit headphone amp are on my short list.
