Most of my music is guitar rock and jazz. Porcupine Tree, Rush ,Blackfield
The amp I am using is the Portal Panache integrated.  Plug straight into the amp.

I do not need anything portable, they will be used in home only, Open Air or over the ears is good either way. I do not need anything overly analytical our reveling, However the Portal Panache has a slightly warm tone and does smooth out some not so good recordings. Any insight our guidance is appreciated.

I recently auditioned a pair of the HD650. Every sound is present , front and center, The separation is very good But, the music lacks emotion, or Feeling for me. I am not sure if was the equipment being used for the audition or what. Can any one recommend another pair to try or any insight.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I suspect your interpretation is how the HD650 renders treble. It is very smooth, not bright or strident.  Give your ears and brain time to adjust to the lack of brightness, and you'll recognize that 650s are very emotional and euphoric headphones.

i confirm this, hd650 is one of most euphonic, user oriented headphone around. Many headphone try to get right the balance or be amazing in technicals, but hd650 for sure aims to just please listener. Actually I will say this is very true for all hd5xx and hd6x0.

On the other hand if is your personal experience that this is unlikable headphone, we will not gonna change this. Maybe you need try HD598, HD600 or DT880.

Hello, I ended up with a pair of PSB PSB M4U 1
I am looking fo a quality cable , I use and an extention now to reach my listing seat. I would like to use one longer cable and eliminate the connection from the cord provided and adapter to the extension cable. Thanks,

I think in general most headphones try to emphasize the treble region, and that's probably what people generally get used to or expect before they try out the HD650. HD650 should sound more musical of the two, but also given it's sound sig, certain genre are it's strengths over the other(like jazz for example), and it seems to be suited with tube amps. It just has a smoother signature out of the two.

And yes, for the HD650, you'd have to give time for your ears to adjust to the treble, and the sig starts to sound better. This is really an issue of what your ears are expecting or used to before the HD650.

Ears get used to sigs, and if there is a contrast in sigs going from one headphone to another, your impression will be impacted at a more significant level compared to similar sig. This is why others tells you to give it an extended listen for ears to adjust.
