Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Sound Quality
Oct 22, 2014 at 7:05 AM Post #91 of 756
Volume level is actually pretty good! Although....max volume can distort which gets tiring after a very short period....Don't often/can't often have it at max volume! Thats with SE846 and/or P7 headphones.

One thing I have installed everyone is Snapdragon Battery Guru....this is the single thing I have changed on the phone...nothing else.

Can you please share the volume step (4/15?) on the note 4 for comfortable listening with the 846? Thanks!

Nice to see samsung stopped making thick/warm sounding phones that mask the crappy dac.

I went to my local experience store today and tried the Note 4 with my Shure SE530s.

Definitely sounded better this time although I had to have the volume up near maximum to achieve an acceptable volume.

When I tried it at another store last week, the connection may not have been all the way in

which explains a lot and why side by side the note 3 seemed much fuller!

For the sake of fairness I better edit my previous post.

* I also tried it in flight mode... no perceptible difference in sound quality for me.

Samsung tends to limit the volume level on their phones either to prevent ear damage (read lawsuits) or to preserve life battery (read higher specs).
Remember Galaxy S1 and the voodoo tweak?
You will probably have to flash a custom kernel on your note to get decent volume. Or get an HTC phone.

It may depend on the version, most devices sold in Europe tend to have volume limits, there's a law requiring it as I understand. It really depends on the sensitivity and impedance of your headphones.

For me at comfortable listening levels:
note 1 7/15 (se846) and 12/15 (sony MDR 1R)
s4 3/15 (se846) and 7/15 (sony MDR 1R)

If you're not getting enough volume go for a third player with 'preamp' or root and get v4a with output gain.

Also it was also hard to get the headphone plug all the way in with all my samsung devices at first, it loosens up over time, if it sounds distant/thin, check that the plug is all the way in.

The Fiio E6 only acts as a buffer to lower output impedance (which is already low), so no.

Had some demo time with the Snapdragon variant that is sold here and it is certainly not something I would purchase. Hope the Exynos is much better.

Must admit I think I'm at a bit of an unfair advantage as the player I use is such a low level app it bypasses much of the android crud. I'm still unable to get power amp to sound good regardless of setting :frowning2:

12/15 is by far loud enough on SE215
