Hello all and thanks in advance for the help.

I have read the Summer 2014 buying guide, looked around at online reviews and searched different head phones until i just basically became over whelmed.  Many of the head phones i  had almost talked myself into were either not well driven off an android phone, too large, too uncomfortable, too price ...always "too" something.

Here is where i am.  I am using an LG G2 (for now) running beats audio subcription service.  I have a set of Bose QC 15s that i use exclusively when i fly.  I would like a set of head phones that sound BETTER than the QC 15s that can be driven off my G2.  Id prefer they be durable and a bit less expensive than the Bose as well.  By less expensive I mean in the $100-$150 range.

I really like the Sennheiser HD558 at $122.00 but these don't appear to be very portable.    Even so, i MAY buy these had phones JUST for listening to when i'm at home in my home office.

The two head phones i keep coming back to in the price range and which appear to be geared towards my usages are the ATH M40x which currently is $99.00 on amazon and includes a cheap little portable amp (Fifo or something).      The other head phone i keep coming back to is the Sennheiser Momentum on ear head phones at $139.00 on Amazon presently.  Both of these appear to offer exceptional value and seem to would suit my purposes.

I listen to 60% alternative rock 10% R&B/Rap 20% Hard/Classic Rock and about 10% Country.

A step up: The Sennheiser Momentum over the ears at $229(ish) and the AKG 550 at $219 looks like they also are well suited to running of a phone (if i remember from my research) but im not sure if the added fidelity will pay off what they cost in terms of weight and well dollars.

I AM willing to entertain other suggestions just be sure and state why you think they would be better than the M40x and Momentum on ears in terms of size, weight, fidelity and cost.

Thank you all for helping out here as i have been reading so much my BRAIN is fried.     About the only i really accomlished is making me want to pull out my very expensive 90s stereo reciever, go buy a turn table and some vinyl records and buy some Sennheiser 600s....none of which im likely to do and nor was that my goal when i started reading here (thanks Head fi for that *sarcasm*)....

Here at head-fi our goal is to make Shure you never escape with that extra money you didn't really want to spend.

You could look at the vmoda M80 if you like your music more towards bass heavy. Definitely portable/durable.

It looks like V-Moda M80 and Sennheiser Momentum On ear have been compared and cross shopped before (from the quick search i just did).

Not surprised by this comparison.   It looks like the Vmoda wins on being built like a truck while the Momentums win on comfort.   Between the two...comfort would probably draw me towards the Momentums.

Now for the second comparison, the Audio Technica ATH M40x for $99.00 with free amp vs the Sennheiser Momentum on ears for $119.00. (in that beautiful Ivory color).    While the Audio Technica loses in portability, these will spend a fair amount of time on my head around the house (still being powered by an android phone in my pocket while i do house hold chores and work in the office) so im not necessarily concerned about how they look on my head/portability as much as value and performance.     How does the sound compare between these two?
