A little about the Shozy Alien

True actually.
I did like the geek out though it didn't have the same addictive quality the alien does.
I think the alien beats it for imaging and overall sense of space.

The geek out is very good for the $$$ though. I sold mine back when the firmware was so so and I nearly took out my hearing a few times but they have fixed all that now so it would be awesome

This right here.

The 450 model looks more tempting to me because I don't need a full watt and its 100 dollars cheaper.

Any suggestions on a similar sounding (and priced) portable DAC+AMP as the Shozy?

FYI

Review of a Ve6 IEM with DAP like AK120 , DX90 ,X5 and shozy Alien.

quote:

Shozy Alien The Shozy Alien is the $199 underdog and by golly it does a really wonderful job competing against all the other previous tested sources above in terms of tonality. Whereas the AK120 sounds the more natural than the X5/DX90 pairing the Alien really took it to the AK120 with the added satisfaction of having a slightly more linear upper mid/lower treble transition that smoothed out the slightly emphasized cymbal splash I was hearing from time to time on the AK120.

One thing I did notice is the Alien does actually have the highest level of hiss or background noise of the 4 DAP's tested with the VE6X and in silent periods or in-between music this might be distracting for some. Pairing the Alien with a well behaved amp such as the Cayin C5 does help clean up the signal and reduce the noise levels significantly.

To date the Heir Audio 8.0 has been my most flexible IEM or CIEM (somewhere in-between) in terms of matching with its smooth and lush presentation meshing really well with most sources. The VE6X carries that same level of flexibility but with a different tonality that is cleaner, tighter and more dynamic. There is room in the purse for both but I give the edge to the VE6X just for that great balance between weight, speed and soundstage that the other CIEM's I have tested have yet to offer as a whole.

it is supposed to be blinking actually>>>>blinking means reading.

If the music isn't playing there is certainly an issue with the encoded songs on the mmc…..try to flac or wave it all and be carefull with the tagging. Best way IMO is just name them 1,2,3……since you can't see anyway you don't need names

My Alien has gone on vacation to Melbourne Australia for a loaner demo. I believe the member is trying the unit with K10 customs. Apparently he could hear some hiss and it gave him some file format / playing problems.

I still enjoy my unit and never thought I'd say this but Alien has this uncanny performance with particular albums. Some just sound like no other player can make them. Taylor Swift 1989 album being one of them. Like the stars align between the mastering and the shozy's signature.
