Just tried it out paired with A17, sounds awesome. The combination sounds better than ak100ii & maybe even ak120ii when playing flac 16/44, warmer n seems to be more lively.

 What headphones/earphones were you using?

Tried it paired with my own ZX1, just got addicted to it:). Sounds so lively, analytical and even can feel the emotion, it also digs out more tiny details compared with bare ZX1, really love the music reproduced by it:D

Pha-2 did too,as in it was improving on zx1 no end, but thats not so difficult even with a fiio amp,so its not saying much.

I tried it with a balanced Z7 and a normal cabled Z5. Both give me really good impression, so I do think Sony do the right stuffs this time, I am completely not impressed with last year's H3, which sounds inferior to my old X40

Just going by this spec, alone...

Maximum output

(when using the built-in lithium-ion

rechargeable battery)

Balanced connection

Approx. 320 mW + 320 mW (32 Ω, 1 % distortion)

Normal connection

Approx. 100 mW + 100 mW (32 Ω, 1 % distortion)

... when using the balanced output, the PHA-3 delivers more than 3.5 times the power of the PHA-2 (90 mW per channel into 32-Ohms), so if you're using something other than IEMs or very efficient headphones, the PHA-3 should deliver better dynamics and bass control, but compare its output to something like the CEntrance HiFi-M8, with 700mW into 32-Ohms, for a lot less money.

Sony's portable gear continues to appeal to those seeking small form factors and convenience at the expense of performance.  They are going for a much larger market than the folks for which the HiFi-M8 was targeted.

But the Cypher Labs Theorem, which is very well received here, is only 205 mW at 32 Ohms.  And I suspect the PHA-3's battery life will be more "Theorem like" then "HiFi-M8 like".

But lets be honest, the PHA-3 was engineered with the MDR-Z7 in mind.  One might consider it only a bonus, if it drives other power hungry headphones adequately...

Should be available in Sony stores across SE Asia any day now ......

Clearly, this dude is pumped - he gets to listen to the amp and collect a check from Sony.

I'll stick with the PHA-2 - too many portable toys anyway.
