I might be getting a HD 650 in November so I'm looking for the accessories to make it better. I'm new so I've just been reading most of the threads in the Headphone amp part of the site. I heard the Fiio e12 is alright but not satisfying. I was going to buy a JDS O2 when I was planning on buying the HD800 but I'll buy that headphone another day due to the price. My price range for an amp is $150 but if I wait until november I can go $350. Any recommendations? and what is this Schiit company i've been reading about or am I late? Tell me about other types of headphones, amps, and speakers if you don't mind.

The real question is, do you have a dac? If not, you can get an O2 with a built in Dac for 279 from them. What type of music do you listen to? You are probably going to be well off with those headphones!

People say you can hear the difference between tubes and the ss on those phones. I cannot with my q701... soooo it could be true or bs. lol  If I am right about there not being any difference with quality amps. (no serious defects included) The O2 Should be perfect! I suggest trying a tube amp for yourself at some point. The little dots are Cheap and highly regarded. Try a blind test though so you aren't tricked.  I hope this helps a little bit.

Well... speaking of schiit though and your price range. I am selling a schiit Lyr for 310 if you are interested in one as of november. Schiit makes a great product.

The combo O2/ODAC is not portable if you are still interested in that (based on your title).

Since you mention speakers, are you eventually going to add speakers and use this all in a desktop setup? If so, you should be looking at a combined dac/amp/pre-amp that has pre-amp outputs for hooking up speakers. I'd suggest the Audio-GD NFB-15.

No, I dont have a DAC. I should know what these are since i'm studying electrical engineering. It's in my head but I just can't reach it. But anyway. The music I listen to Is mostly everything but I'll rank by what I listen to the most.

1) R&B
2) Underground Hip Hop
3) Rock/Metal
4) Country
5) OPM (That's my countries music I'm filipino its a little R&Bish and can get a little Hip hop)
6) EDM
7) Japanese anime Music

And what do you mean I'm well off with these headphones? Do you mean I'm better off without an amp or i'm better off with these headphones? Sorry your enthusiasm just went over my head.

I'm not really looking to make a desktop setup. When I get enough money I plan on making a good speaker/stereo system. One with a good vinyl/analog system and speaker system. You get the drift. But If I plan on making a desktop setup randomly out of the blue because I tend to do things out of the blue it would be helpful. And yea I'm looking for a portable amp because I wanna make a Portable IPod setup.

I would ask in the HD650 thread and see what people recommend: http://www.head-fi.org/t/197776/sennheiser-hd650-impressions-thread

Be sure to be clear about what you want to hook up your amp to.

The HD650s are a good headphone however you might as well buy a dedicated desktop amp/dac for them because they are less than optimal portable headphones (being open backed and high impedance). If you must got portable, you might have to spend a bit of money. If not and you're on a budget, check out Schiit. In fact if you can spend more check out the rest of Schiit's lineup however for rock and electronic I would stick to solid state amplification, not tubes. You mentioned you were planning on upgrading to the HD800s, however before you think about that gather plenty of knowledge about DACs and amps. These are very important with both the HD650 and 800.

How on earth do you plan to use the HD650 on the go? They're large and open back.

I like to wander around my flat with open-backs and amp/DAP, rather than be tethered to the spot.

I think the E12 will complement the HD650 as it's a cool sounding amp. It certainly satisfies me with HE400 and old K240, also my old HD540 - lovely.

I like to use my open headphones in various rooms around the house with my DAP, so I can understand that. Portable but not public use

Exactly and the only other place I go besides home is school. The people at school got used to me playing music. They know me at the music and headphone person. One time the networking guy asked the librarian if she liked a song and she replied saying if I like the song she would like it also, I laughed. Everyone has their thing in school their different in here we have our headphones particularly I like open headphones.
