Hi there,

As an introduction the HE-6 are very difficult to drive and obviously the price factor is changed because of the amp + adaptator needed.

I confirm that ODIN and HE-6 have similar signature, good bass and clear trebles but better textured with the ODIN where on the HE-6 they sound airy.
Considering the amplification side, actually the ODIN is a clear winner but price is twice.

Thanks, Claude.

For memory, the Odin headphone weighs 670 g (without cable), and the Vali, 560 g (see the two pics below) : this is the weight actually carried by the head (and not 800 g, as announced by some...).

Otherwise, as already said, the weight felt on the top of the skull is much lower, because harmoniously distribued by the secondary headband, especially if this headband is padded like mine (see the picture of the Odin).
Also, do not hesitate to bend (twist) the metal hoop on the outside to reduce the lateral clamping pressure on the tempes (it is very effectively!), and, also, to play with the adjusting screw "3D", for an optimal adjustment of the orientation and the height of the earpads, not to mention also that the earpads can turn (be rotating) (such as those of the Abyss).

How about by your code-x?

I meant by a commercially produced set of headphones. The Code-X is special but not everyone has access to it. I dont think it entirely trumps the HE6 in every way but it's better in many. Very complementary.

When I read something like super-he6 or some other phone that i know is one of the top flight out there, I immediately pop off the salt shaker top and pour a healthy serving into my mouth.

What I'm saying is it sounds like super hype stuff. The he6 when amped properly isn't easily outdone by much, so a super version of it is quite the claim.

I'm with you bro.  I have tried over and over to top the HE-6 and have yet to come close.

An HE-6 can be perfectly driven with a vintage speaker amp, easily.  I recently hooked it up to my SA-8800 (80 wpc that cost me $240) through the speaker taps and enjoyed it as much as I do with my 250 wpc Spec system.   Likewise the SX-1050 @ $400 blew me away.  They are NOT difficult to drive if you approach it right.  And you need no adapter - straight to the taps.

Maybe the issue is guys are trying to drive the HE-6 with headphone amps.  I constantly cringe when I read it's "hard to drive" and it "costs too much to drive it right".   Both points are dead wrong.

Yes, we know very well that HE-6 are easily driven by speakers amps :)
And we do it of course, sir, with even not cheap amps being transistors or tubes.

But we are speaking here of tube amps and what you should know is that output transformers for speakers don't suit headphones which impedance is frequency dependant (less for planars) where speakers are stable.
I can tell you that powerful headphones amps made with the right output transformers are much costier than the amounts you're speaking of.

On another side, I would say that YOU do it wrong since HE-6 are headphones and were not supposed to be driven by speakers amps...

Ketchup was originally Vietnamese fish sauce.

But it now works for burgers. Guess Im doing my burgers wrong

Actually next time you make house made burger patty, try adding fish sauce into the meat and mixing. You'll be surprised how it brings out the taste of the beef and adds some umami goodness.

Okay Ill try that.
I use fish sauce all the time.

Btw curious of what you think about the Vali. Its def a departure from the normal headphone. Smooth, punchy, and very rich. It should be to you soon. The production units just finished and are said to sound slightly more open. Really stoked about owning one. When you get it id advise a neutral sounding DAC
