After purchasing a pair of Senal SMH-500, I found the ear pads (cushions) were a bit snug for my comfort.

Initially, I thought about buying a pair of Senal Extra Deep Ear Pads listed at BHPhoto . . . but they sell for $25 shipped and that was TOO pricey IMO - particularly when the velour pads sell for $30 shipped (more on this later).

The Senal Extra Deep Ear Pads once sold for $20 at Amazon . . . http://www.amazon.com/Senal-Extra-Deep-Ear-Pads/dp/B00LXEYDT6/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t . . . , however, at the time of this posting, they are not available.

I also recently bought a pair of JVC HA-RX700, and their ear pads are quite comfortable IMO.

Prior to purchasing the RX700's, I read a ton of threads in this forum and found one particular thread extremely interesting . . . posted on July 9th 2012 by Head-Fi member Graphicism . . . http://www.head-fi.org/t/435809/jvc-ha-rx700-mods#post_5867619

I really LOVED the FOAM modification by Graphicism . . . and when I went to MOD my RX700 with foam I thought I had - I did not have any foam and was really bummed.  Then I remembered.  In a kitchen drawer I once had some weather-stripping for doors and windows . . . WOO HOO!!  Not only was this foam easier for modifying, but it was PERFECTLY SYMMETRICAL (as in round) . . . in short, it was a FANTASTIC FOAM!!

Could not find the original bag, but did visit Menard's website and found the SAME product . . . 3/8 inch x 20 feet Poly-Foam Backer Rod.  Rod makes it sound rigid, but it is not - it is very flexible and it retains its' cross-sectional shape (area) when wedged into the ear pad (cushion) space.

Here's a tiny pic of the product . . .

With the SMH-500, the 3/8 inch foam plumps up the OEM ear pads (cushions) to the point where they may not last as long as they might without the foam.  No worries, at eBay there are a ton of sellers peddling replacement pads for Senal SHM cans (as well as Sony MDR7506 cans) for less than $5 including shipping (sure, they're not OEM, but given the feedback I reviewed, I'm certain the are worth the money - but not more).

Currently at eBay, there are also Auray Deluxe Velour Ear Pads selling for $20 including shipping.  I think I am going to buy a pair, replace the stock Senal pads and then MOD the Velour in the same way.  IMO, this is a substantially better investment than spending $25 at BHPhoto for the Senal Extra Deep Ear Pads (mentioned above).

Do not know if Menard's (stores) are in every state, but here's the link . . . http://www.menards.com/main/doors-windows/weather-stripping/wj-dennis-poly-foam-caulk-savr-reg-backer-rod-weatherstrip/p-1914351-c-3624.htm . . . and if Menard's is not in your state, I'm certain Home Depot likely has a similar product.

I think it's reasonable to conclude that this foam and modification will work equally well with Senal SMH-1000, as well as Sony MDR7506 and Sony MDR-V6.

Thanks again, Graphicism.
