Schiit Ragnarok Amplifier

Not having heard or owned any other amps I don't have anything to compare to the mjolnir but hoping the rag will be a pretty definitive step up. I don't consider the X to be lean sounding on the Mjo at all but then everyone hears things differently.

The Rag is a very definite step up for the LCD-X.  Gets rid of the simultaneous LCD-X glare and mush.  More than one step up I'd say.  This the large difference in damping factor may play a role here, Mjolnir output impedance is 1.5 Ohm, versus 0.1 Ohm for the Rag's balanced headphone output.  LCD-X impedance is only 20 Ohm.

Mjolnir seems unlistenable now for the LCD-X.

Placing my order Friday. Just wondering if you guys know if the Ragnorak is a true balanced design? Many integrated amps with balanced inputs have a chips inside that converts back to SE source.. which is BS imo.

Yes.  I actually find it hard to believe that this is opaque to anyone seriously interested at this point.

My order is 20703 and ordered at about 0900 CT the first day available. No notice yet but when it's time it will be time. Not a big deal. Still have my M/G stack working just awesome. In fact it is kinda hard to imagine how the rag would improve on what I am getting now but anxious to find out... Going to use Gungnir with the ragnarok until yggdrasil becomes available.

Good thing you kept your virginity!?! What dac to use with the rag?

Bleh.  Mine is 21038.  I hope that's 334 Pyst cables between me and you.

Not sure where to post this since there seems to be at least 3 or more Ragnarok threads....

Anyway, I just spent the day testing out the Ragnarok at a local speaker manufacturer, Acoustic Zen. We hooked the Rag up to their flagship speakers, the Maestro ($43,000/pair).

I was skeptical about the Raggy having enough power to drive these 5.5ft., 225lbs speakers.

Cut to the chase: The Raggy drove these speakers like a champ!

There was plenty of power at hand to get to very loud levels. I had the volume at about 3 o'clock for a moderately loud sound pressure level. But beyond having enough power, the sound was truly amazing. I know these speakers pretty well. I have been to the factory to listen to them at least 5 times or more. I have also hear their next smaller speaker, the Crescendo, with a $20,000 Triode tube amp.

The Rag is an amazing speaker amp. Even if you never used it for headphones, for these speakers, it is one of the best amps I have heard with these speakers.

The owner of the company who has what I consider to be "Golden Ears" listened and was really impressed. He is super critical and finds the flaws in everything. He has heard many different amps driving his speakers and he said the Rag was "almost perfect". He could not believe the amp was only $1699. I think he is planning on buying one to demo with his speakers.

I can't wait to try the Rag on my speakers (old Mark Levinson Cello Stradivari Premiere speakers).

Oh yeah, we also listened to some headphones:

Paradox Slants, Enigmas, HD800's, Philips Fidelio X2, and a pair of heavily modded PM-2's by @FFRESPONSE (aka Alex). My favorites were the Enigma's and the best were Alex's modded PM-2's. Those headphones are insanely good especially on the Rag.

Wow, Sounds great! Thanks for taking the time to post this.

I've been thinking about the Rag and waiting on reviews/impressions and this sounds really promising.

Great pics, it is fantastic that the Ragnarok can run such high end floor speakers with ease.

Regarding engineering of the Ragnarok SE output, quoted from the vast, un-linkable depths of the internet:

" Yep, the single-ended outputs are summed from the circlotron output, so they have lower overall power capability, plus additional components in the signal path...bottom line, we made them as good as we could (because we know they have to be there for convenience,) but balanced, for a circlotron, is the One True Path. "

Thanks ogodei. I wish i could enjoy that earth shattering power from SE as well, but yeah ...

I was 20663, confirm email at 11:45 central.   So 11 amps out the door so far ?

I'm still wondering if they changed some part after beta.  Just odd that they didn't have some stock of parts ready for the rush otherwise.

+1  Sure is odd.  Seems like before opening up for production they should have had 20 or so (maybe more) all ready to go (being made by hand or not).  Just the way I think I guess.

Yikes, 19 orders until mine ships.

I get the feeling that they were "ready" but due to some of the issues raised in the beta maybe they have had to retest and possibly alter some amps before release?

Order #20674, my confirmation email came at 1:22 pm ET.

I first corresponded with Jason in November 2013 about Ragnarok availability when he expected to ship by the end of the year or slightly later.

I sold my Woo WA22 in March as Rag availability appeared imminent.

My order # is 20678, so I must be close.....

My iMac/iTunes Ch.D Pure Music WAV files (via USB), vintage Pioneer rack (vinyl, tuner, cassette, graphic EQ through SPEC-1 preamp), Line 6 Pod Studio UX2, HD800, JBL 4208/B&W DM601S3 rig is essentially idle until the Rag arrives.

I've learned to be patient.

That's just it "before release".

Why start shipping when your gas tank is on empty?  All your going to get - is what you see here now.  "My order number is this" "I ordered on the first day"  type of thing.  We all knew there would be a very good number of orders coming in on the first day - we could see that a few months back.

Again, that's just the way I think..
