Westone ES60 unboxing and first impressions

Make sure to upgrade the cable to your aftermarket ones.  Epic is good, but doesn't do the sound justice.  It will only scale up from there.  As I mentioned before, Super BaX has the best pair up with ES60 I heard so far, better than most of my pure silver or pure copper cables.  Talk to Linum, definitely get one for review ;)

The Super Bax website is kind of confusing. What combo did you order? Any recommendation for a good pair of balanced cable? You can buy the Fiio balanced cable for Shure for like $30 which has mmcx connectors, but I believe Shure has the nonrecessed mmcx unlike the recessed in Westone, so it will stick out.

I had super BaX balanced as a review sample for a year now, sorry, I didn't order it so not sure about their website. It's not just about balanced wiring but the pair up of specific cables with your iem/ciem. Even spending $30 on something that not going to make a sound difference is a waste of money. FiiO balanced cable had a connector housing that was too big for W60 but should work with ES60. I'm not talking about connector itself, any standard Shure or other mmcx connector will work with Westone, but the actual housing being too big in diameter. Another problem with Fiio cable is very noticeable microphonics I experienced with it.

I think we had this discussion before. I have never been a believer of cables. I want to try the fancy ones, but it's hard to drop $200+ and can't even return it. I might try Artemis cables. They are located like 20 min away from me.

I need to send my left ES60 in for repair. Yesterday I was using a custom cable with the ES60, the cable went in fine. It's a cable made using the specific Westone recessed connector. I was listen to them all weekend. Today when I tried to put the stock cable back, I noticed the left side socket got pushed in, even though the last thing I did was pulling the cable out. I use the right technique by holding the cable with a cloth and pulling straight out without wiggling it. It's not like the mmcx socket broke off. It seems that on the IEM side, when it was made there was some play (see pictures). Looks like these mmcx connectors are not built to last.

You are absolutely right silver litz makes a huge difference in sound. Most obvious is treble spark and clarity. The sound signature completely changed. I wish my cable isnt so stiff. There is also too much microphonics. I need a more flexible cable like the Westone Epic. Is your silver litz very soft?

I always loved the 2-pin connectors, much more reliable in my experience and believe me.. one of the pins even twisted to an almost 90 degree angle and I was still able to straighten it and use it as if nothing happened. These MMCX connectors look bad and seem unreliable as well.

I have Westone W60 which I quite like, being an upgrade from my previous W3 earphones.

I'm consideering a further upgrade to the ES60 and I was wondering if anyone has done a direct comparison between the ES60 and W60.

Anyone to compare ES60 with W4r? W4r was the best signature I ever heard.

Sure. I was just comparing them last night. Using the red star tips for the westone w4. The es60 has all thebass and mids of the w4 but adds amazing highs and amount of seperation and detail to the lows. The lows go a bit deeper. The es60 are a huge step up from the w4. Wider sound stage, richer more detailed sound with better seperation and more natural sounding vocals and instruments. Better cymbals, natural sounding drums, just better balanced overall. To top it off the es60 are easier to drive than the w4.

Many Thanks! The best thing i hear in W4r is the "creamy" in mids, never harsh or agressive, aways smooth and with a beautiful body, not so thick and not so thin, just perfect to my ears. If ES60 have the same mid signature this have to be my upgrade. And about the highs, i have a big sensivity to highs and prefer them very slighty recessed, even with the increase the treble continues smooth? The change stay more to quantity or quality?

I also am quite sensitive to treble. The es60 is never harsh. Its hard for me to explain. Itas almost like listening to the w4 in a enclosed container that was lifted to reveal ghe other frequencies. The w4 seem muffled and missing so much after i got the es60. If you wsnt to give Westone a call and speak to someone in the music or custom department aand see how they compare them. Another analogy is you have earplugs in your ears or your fingers. The lows and mids come out a bit of what you hear in the enviroment, but then when you remove the earplugs or your fingers you hear everything else you were mising, but the bass and mids become clear not muffled.

I would love for anyone else to jump in who has the w4, w40 to compare to the es60. I am not quite sure i am comming across correctly right now.

This was exactly what I want to know. In next month I go to São Paulo to visit the Westone laboratory here in Brazil and listen the demos, but after this I really think that ES60 will be my choice. Thank you very much for your time and for your feedback!

The biggest problem with ES60 - it only being offered as Custom IEM and people can't preview the sound in "universal" fit and wrongfully assume that ES60 is a custom version of W60 which is NOT!!!  Regarding Westone, W40/W50/W60/UmPro50 are all warm tuned IEMs, it's their house sound.  Some like it, others don't.  Just a matter of a personal preference

Also, their Epic cable keeps the sound warm, you NEED to switch to silver cable to bring up the details and sparkle.  ES60 which I have been using with Linum Super BaX prototype cable since last year is a force to be reckoned with

Regarding you decision, wait about a month or so, I will probably have a comparison of ALL of them (minus UERR, plus U12 and U6).

Do you have a picture of the Super BaX with the ES60? Is there any gap between the MMCX connector? I'm thinking about getting one. Thx
