Hello all !

I actually have the Xonar Essence STX sound card and i wanted to know if it's worth to change it for the Xonar Phoebus ?

I wish have a bit more "bass" and a better surround in-game. And i heard that the Home Theater v4 is an immersive surround ? Is that right ?

My Headphone is a MMX-300 (stereo).

Thanks guys and sorry for my bad english! (i'm french ^^)

Vive la France.

The Phoebus would not offer any audio quality better then the STX.
I'm not sure of the differences in surround sound between the STX's Dolby Headphone and the Phoebus's Home Theater V4 (they are both Dolby)
Have you disabled the motherboard's on-board audio? in the BIOS.
Try deleting the Asus software and install Unified Xonar Drivers

For improving audio quality, you would be better off just replacing the op-amps (operational amplifiers) on the STX.
The LME49720NA op-amps sell for as little at $4 each (you would only need two)
I replaced all three of my STX's op-amps with AD797BR op-amps, $55
The LME49990 are also well liked, $45 (for 3).

Hey thanks again for your reply !

I already downloaded Unified Xonar Drivers and i got the same results that before..
As regards op-amps I dont really need this, I just need a better surround in game and I also tried razer surround software but any sounds seems to have a delay of 300ms.
This is just unplayable.. All I need is a better surround ><

Please help me! Anyone to advise about surround sound ? ^^

Thanks !! :)

All I need is a better surround without an "echo effect" like dolby Headphone does. ><

Does anyone to advise about this ?

I also tried razer surround but any sounds of my computer seems to be delayed of 300ms. :frowning2:

Please help me !

Thanks!!

Thanks guys to have took time to answer me :D

Do you have the Xonar Phoebus ? Is there a good surround in game ?

I d say Dolby HTv4 is less hollow sounding compared to Dolby Headphone.and can be very fun and immersive in both gaming and movies, sometimes in music, but for competitive gaming this might not be the best option. still I d say it is not worth getting a pheobus just for the sake of trying Dolby HTv4.

Okay thanks alot,  but why this might not be the best option for competitive gaming ?

EDIT: Another advice ? ^^

I don't think DHTv4 is that great for getting accurate positioal clues, comparing with Dolby Headphone. some may find DHTv4 sounds more like a sterio widening effect. if you really want to try DHTv4, try xonar U7.

  Okay thanks alot appsmarsterx :D

So, according to you I shouldn't buy a phoebus or another sound card ?

lol I can only give you an advise here.. final decision is up to you.  if you want more bass, try getting a different headphone like Fidelio X1.  if you still desperately want to try DHTv4, there are more affordable alternatives like Xonar U7, instead of getting Phoebus.
