Clear Bass + is godly :)

So what if the box wasn't sealed, this thing will never go stale.

Yeah clear bass is fine edited as soon as noticed my error. Don't have player with me at moment and got them mixed up sorry.

It's clear audio I meant

lol, that's so funny to me since when I went from Nano/Ipod to Clip ages ago, I was almost shocked and disgusted how "bassy" the Clip sounded, it took me a month or two to get fully used to it & I still preferred the Nano. Walkman and Clip are much closer in sound than those two were, at least to my ears. Kind of crazy how differently people percieve sound.

I normally listen flat but I have some headphones like the EX1000 that respond really well to the ClearBass boost- it seems very good, though not as strong as my C5D's boost gets. I sometimes mess around with the EQ with cans that aren't quite to my liking, it's pretty handy, though I wish there were maybe 8-12 bands instead of 5 (plus CB which doesn't go negative)

I think one of the early reviews referred to it as "the fun button". Occasionally it'll hit a song out of the park, usually it's just weird. I've entirely ignored it since my first few weeks with the player. I guess if someone were to leave it on for an extended time they might get used to it?

that might be me ^_^.

it can be really cool and really make the music alive in a way. but very often it does mess up the voice a little. so depending on the songs, I really can't stand it. but on something like EDM, oh boy how fun it can be.
anyway it's not a hifi button, so there is no need to see it as one. it's a DSP and like any DSP on a DAP we enjoy them or we don't. it really comes down to that IMO.

I tredid clearBass and i note the bass increase with my MDR-1R, clearBass at 1 is good, at 2 starts to get bassier and 3 is mega bass, as far i know clearBass is a DSP not hardware impementation like Oppo, which raise the bass punch while still retaining clarity, perfect for bass shy phone. I don't use Bass+ nor clearBass on my XBA-H3's

an exmple of such albums where my 1R's struggle to reach bass as deep as a huge organ pipe of 5 floors high even with gain switch set to High (need bass boost)

Yes , me too ... i love it .. yes sometimes works some times messes with the vocals as you said ... but it is what it is and i am thankful it is there as well as the clear bass
grateful too that those features has good synergy with my iem ... i tried the clear audio + on my GF's Beyerdynamic and it was BAD !!

The best sounding "free" earphones are from those sony walkmans like the A800 & x1000 and forward

Agree with this

The EX082 the at came with the A818 were great at the time if a little warm sounding. They were based on the MRD-EX90, Sony's flagship in ear at the time. I bought a pair for £18- how things have changed !

An interesting hybrid design like an earbud but with angled sound tube sticking out with in ear tips. Large 15mm (?) drivers. Several current in ears from Atomic Floyd, Audio Technica and more recently Dunu (Titan) have 'borrowed' this principle.

I did with the ZX2, took me a day away from that button to realise that - like you say, it is a 'fun' button, great for certain genres / tracks, but - certainly not something to leave on permanently.

yes yes I loved them, no itching, non uncomfortable, very pleasing sound too, wish the XBA-H3 were based on this design IMHO

Agree i can say the same for the Ha-2 amp Bass+ switch, does a great job for certain music but not for having it on all the time and a little update the LO battery life i am getting is an AVG of 31h

Yes, after testing, I realised that iTunes kept storing my tags as idv2.4. I deleted my iTunes library (might have been overkill), and used EASYtag to save all my tags as idv2.3 and it worked, all my song information is displayed properly. Thanks for the tip castleofargh!

Going slightly off topic from the player's sounds, what do you guys use to store both your A series and IEMs? I'm currently using a pelican micro 1010 but it's slightly inconvenient as the player cannot fit into the lower half of the case due to the rubber lining.
