SONY NWZ-A10 Series

I tough SensMe was so slow, based on my past Media go experience to scan 38,700 FLAC files on a Sony VAIO with core i5 4th generation 8GB ram using an USB 3.0 HD

so i tried it on my walkman expecting the worst... took just one hour 15 minutes to scan 4, 666 flac files (90GB worth) from both the microSD and the internal memory.

So to scan filled 128GB card + 64GB memory like 9, 700 flac... will take like 3 hours... not bad

I see you played with sense me, can you please answe a question about it?

If I start scannis the songs/channels for sense me and lets say out of total 100 songs I waithed to scan to complete 50 songs only and then I stop it. Then later when I go to scan again, will it start from the beginnig and scan what was scanned before or it will only scanned the remaining 50 only? It it doesnt rescan all that means that when adding new songs we wont have to wait for long time for scan as it will scan the new tracks only.

If that is true true then it will also be useful for those of us who have no patience to wait for hours for it to scan all song as we would be able to do it in batches - 100 songs today, 100, tomorow and so on.

Sorry for double post but forgot to quote.

Thanks

I found this on Youtube explaining what DHSEE does to a ALAC (lossless) file.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lagnqOHAYMU

Tried it with FLAC... Non-apple cousin ... DSEE HX  seems to pair very well with MDR-1R.. back-off saying it sounded like CRAP with piano music.. it seems the XBA-H3 make this sound weird

Seems DSEE HX add more bass definition, gives me the sense of more air and livelyness in the music

In the player i don't know if it starts where it was left but in my PC it scans where i left it... as far i know in my pc adding new songs it just scans the new songs

I will leave MediaGo over night scanning my 40, 383 FLAC files

My A15 rekinled my love for Sony SQ...Yesterday I bought me Sennheiser MX400...When I got home i dug out my Sony NWZ -E463 (4gb) which was unused for a year or so...I load it up with absolute favorites of mine and hooked MX400 to it...Placed the clear bass on + 2, DSEE on, Clear Studio on, VPT: Studio...Currently listening to Benassi's Insomnia Remix and man, does that sound good!!! Its got me tapping my foot and banging my head up and down as I type...

I know the E series SQ is not as good as other flagship/more expensive Sony DAPs like A10 but it still sounds great and fun, better than any ipod I tried...Compared to my A15 it is warmer and more bassy but still keeping the Sony house sound...Can't let my wife read this as she will then wonder why I needed to upgrade if my lesser gear sounds great too, hehehe.

Thank you Sony and Sennheiser for giving us these great budget products...pls keep em coming....

To gerelmx1086

I tried sense me scanning on the player with NWZ-E463 and if you stop the scanning and restart later it restarts from where it stopped last time and only scans the tracks that were not scanned before, it doesnt double scan the ones already done during the previous scan. I guess A10 will work in the same way.

Cheers

Good player, with good headphones, but to my ear version of F has more bass!

I avoided Sony for so long because of their unnecessary proprietary stuff, didn't even realise the E walkmen had drag+drop, otherwise would have loved one instead of the Clips and  iPod Nanos  I was using after my 3G iPod died.

Very glad the A10 walkmen came along now w/ expandable memory, multiformat support and decent interface. If only the E-Series supported FLAC and had microSD- would be my ideal compact budget player- good SQ, with the functionality of a Clip and the E-series UI and build quality to compete with iPod Nano.

I did not hear F series, but for me E series has plenty of bass...I guess it depends on headphones, but for me even with no bass monsters headphones bass is still adequate in E series...

Yup, my thoughts exactly, if the E series had an expandable memory it would be such a great DAP as it's SQ is more than decent, UI is nice and it is so small and light it can fit in your shirt pocket and you dont even feel its there...

I love it but need for more space made me upgrade to A15...It took me one week to go through my library (slightly above 5000 tracks and cherry pick the songs I love the most to fit into 4 GB (only 3.2 is actually usable) and still I ended up leaving a lot of songs that I love as they would just not fit all, hehehe...

If you guys are talking F800 and F880 series, then I can somewhat agree. I wouldn't necessarily say they have more bass, though, than the A10. The F's bass is tighter and punchier, with less decay, in my opinion.

The A17 lacks some bass (especially cranked up, bass always seems to roll off with any Walkman), but that's completely cured with a Fiio E12 (probably the most underrated and best bang-for-the-buck amp on the market) and bass switch flipped on.  The combination of the A17, E12 (both of which perfectly fit in a Tune Belt for work outs) and SE846 with SCS sleeves is my idea of the perfect gym rig - wonderful isolation, loud, powerful, immersive.

^ this is a fact, using the e12a/a15 right now with iem's and the sound is excellent. I think the line out improved over a length of time. Don't know why, (probably placebo).
But no match to the stock amp in the a10, I can't use it on its own and get the same level of sound quality, or pleasure.
For the most amazing bang for $ pair up your a10 to a fiio e12a or e12diy.

(haven't had a standard e12 so can't comment on it)

just bought an NW-A17 with the XBA-A1 headphones in osaka. Still pretty tired from the 12 hour flight but it sounds great (also tried it with my MDR-10 Headphones...). only downside some mp3s/ALAC/AAC files don't show the cover that is clearly in the file and not just "added" in itunes. strange! if one of you knows why and what I can do to fix it, that would be awesome.

as far as I can see it is not possible to change the menu language in the japanese version of the walkman, sad but not that much of a problem.

I'm very tempted to pick up an A15.

If I want a line out to a portable amp, will a cable like the Fiio L5 do the job? Is it possible to charge and 'line out' simultaneously?

If the A15 is capable of digital output via the WM port, is Sony's hilariously overpriced cable a must, or is there another way?

And finally, does anyone know of a way to make the A15 play nicely with ITunes or is it back to drag and drop for me?

I'm not really a massive iTunes fan, but spent a long time re-encoding my flac files to ALAC years ago and I ain't going there again - life is too short, so I eat apples and try not to think of all those flac compatible players I could have used. Doh!

Apologies if my questions have already been covered - it's a long thread.

Cheers

In response to the line out question - if you are desk/home bound, then yes, you may charge and line out at the same time. Give Sony's BCR-NWU7 dock a look. (Japan only though, but there are obviously ways to get it to other parts of the world :p ) It is specifically for the purpose of line out and charging and afaik comes bundled with an AC adaptor. As an aside, I also got the line out with 3.5mm socket rather than cable (search on ebay) - Fiio's L5 seemed rather restrictive in terms of length and not too sure about the other cheapo cables.
