Chord Hugo - The PORTABLE discussion thread

Just a question recently I have read that sony has came up with a new LDAC technology, is this something that chord HUGO can take advantage off?

http://www.sony.net/Products/LDAC/

at present the answer is no though enquiries are being made to try and make this happen... the LDAC Bluetooth technology is owned by Sony and at present only works with their equipment Playstation, Hi-Fi, TV's etc.

regarding Hugo's Bluetooth and Sony DAP's/Phones... only the 'Sony Xperia Z' will connect to the Hugo via Bluetooth, to quote Mannp from the Hugo-thread 'Upgrading my devices to Sony Lollipop builds allowed them to connect to my Hugo with apt-x and play correctly, where on 4.4.4 they would not.'... I can't connect either ZX1 or ZX2 to the Hugo well that goes for most Sony devices that haven't been upgraded Android Lollipop, Sony usually upgrade the Walkman Android OS's at some point so hopefully one will soon follow.

I'm wondering if a cable like this would work fine transferring the digital signal from the Sony nw zx2 to chord Hugo properly?

This is interesting because it's a cleaner solution than Sony's USB adapter cable. And I'm also very curious if this cleaner solution leads to better sound quality?

I've been asking if these actually work as no-ones bought one to try out, understandable when the price is a whopping £210($320) a pop... think I'll let someone else take the risk & stick with my two cable affair otg at the mo, err it's one cable when using the Sony Dock at home.

Ouch! - you could buy a DAP with a proper coax digital out for that.

there's a thought, a FiiO X5 as a transport instead...

Listening to that very combo as I read this. Sweet sounds and 256GB storage.

ahh but when using the Sony dock I charge, play music & listen through the Hugo... if I want to use PC via ZX2 I just flick the switch.

sometimes size is irrelevant, don't you think.

Possibly... but this is the portable thread

@OK-guy I can conform that aptx works with Sony A15 however the LDAC which can be found on the A15 don't. The connection is stable and remains so untill A15 is in a 30 cm radius. This is in the sound quality priority setting.

Considering how cheap the A15 walkman is and how convenient Bluetooth is I cannot wait to see LDAC in a near future.

Am I right to assume that HUGO should theoretically be able to use this in future without a hardware upgrade? It seems to be merely a coding than anything as Bluetooth 3.0 support LDAC streaming.

as far as I know there is only one Sony-Android device that works with the Hugo(aptx) that is the Xperia-Z phone, the A17 isn't Android so you're blessed... I had chance to visit a Hi-Fi dealer a few weeks back and they got the ZX1 paired with a Onkyo AV amplifier but not with a Arcam two-channel one... the problem seems to be with Android so will have to wait for Sony to update the OS to the version of what Mannp said.

I tried connecting the ZX2 via Bluetooth to Hugo last night (out of curiosity) and still no go... that LDAC technology looks special especially at three times the data-speed of normal Bluetooth, range is meant to be greatly improved as well, one will wonder if Sony will do a Apple & keep it in-house so to speak.

Switched transport last night for first time, iBasso DX90 didn't sound close to X5 on few tracks I played. As separate DAPs, I've found DX90 too relaxed recently especially since latest firmware which majority prefer. But didn't expect any difference through HUGO. DX90s volume is not variable (like its Line Out) but EQ is operable! So wondering if it's Coax out is not quite as true as X5s?

Any other X5/DX90 owners tried both with Hugo?

Moon audio sells one that's 6" inches long and you can choose one end specifically for the X5 and the other specifically for the Hugo.
