Philips Fidelio X2?!

Got mine earlier today from the Amazon deal. They do have the slight cosmetic defect on the left ear cup only but it doesn't really bother me considering I got them for such a great price. The sound quality seemed really lackluster at first listening. Then I let them burn in for a few hours and I am quite enjoying the sound. Great deal for $200.

X2 cable is OK, just a bit noisy and unwieldy. I definitely prefer the V-MODA - perfect length, smooth and quiet sleeve.

They both sound absolutely the same to me.

I would say this criticism of the X2's stock cable is fine, which is why I grabbed an $8 10-ft Monoprice cable which is great. I couldn't hear a difference either.

These respond well to better sources. Many people have reported success running these straight from phones, but I had less success. My NAD Viso HP50 sounds better over tmy phone, even though I prefer my X2s overall.

Opened, is that can of worms.  What's the source for the Philips recommendation?

I can't remember where I read it but to be fair, there are a LOT of reviews for these phones and it was probably buried in the comments section somewhere. So I'll cop to not having the best recall in this instance but it was definitely second-hand info. I think the issue at hand was the mismatched driver problem. On my pair, the sub-bass was noticeably louder in the left cup, That eventually sorted itself out. The other guy's headphones didn't. To anyone having that problem now, YMMV.

Thanks :).

So far my neck isn't bothering me as much.  There is getting to ap oint where it gets a little harsh, so maybe I'm just putting it up too high, even though I feel that some of the sounds should be louder?

Is that just some EQ magic needed or...?

I felt the HRM-7's were a lot more harsh at higher volume though...

You're experiencing fatigue? What's your source, amp, and music that's giving you issues?

I find low quality (192kb) mp3s grate on my ears; however 320kb from Spotify sound good.

Eurobeat didn't really fare well with The X2's.  Some was good, some seemed harsh for some reason...  I turned off "Maxxwave" so that I could get the "X2's pure sound..."

All I know is... Mega man 10 - Wily Stage 1 is killing it on these headphones.....

Damn... There must be a good Eurobeat headphone out there....

Bleets of lightning is doing well too..... <3

These songs are a bit slower than Eurobeat songs, so maybe that's the reason... Fast decay was the comment on those, and these songs don't decay really, it's very slow and nice....

Weird....

Damn these VGM songs are sounding soooooo nice.......

Well I'm definitely learning that each HP has good and bad music it works with, not only your "sound signature," playing into effect.

Moonlight vibin is a bit harsh though on the "snare" I believe.

But it's a bright song and needs to be kicked back a little I guess....

I hear that when people usually listen to louder music the ears adjust for that..  So maybe I need to learn to liste to the music a little less loud with HPs and my ears will start to adjust better....

What's your source? Higher quality headphones sound lousy with low quality copy-of-acooy compressed mp3 files. It's like taking a low-resolution picture of a painting, then showing it on a nice monitor. You can't blame the monitor for displaying an image of low quality. Like the old saying, "garbage in, garbage out."

Get Spotify Premium. 320kb mp3s sound quite nice.

Yeah prob neeed some umph, because I'm maxing out my volume on some of these songs....  Mega Man x2 Opening Stage needs more POWER!  But sounds oh soo good..........

I like surround sound spekaers, but that might be taboo on head-fi.. LOL...

You obviously need a better source than a broken laptop jack or some speaker control that's not even able to give them enough volume. Even a good phone should be better.

What quality music files do you listen to?

Does the Fiio e6 count as a real amp? I've been fine powering everything off of my desktop, but I really want to see(hear?) what these can do. I've only had the Vmoda M80, SHP9500, and the M-50 (which I think sucks).

since Peter made a comment about the "Speaker Control" I thought about plugging the HPs back into my Logitech controller.  I can get louder volume from this for sure, a lot louder.  I'm not sure how the quality of the music sounds compared though..  It sounded different the first time I switched though...

Hmm at first it didn't sound that loud after switching from 5.1 to stereo (since plugging the speaker cable changed it back to 5.1), and then the next song came on really really loud... ugh upsetting lol....   I think I'm already, but damn that wasn't fun...

The jack works fine, unless you wiggle it wrong, it only cuts out a channel, so the issue is known when it happens.  I'm finishing building a new computer soon.  The volume is enough for most songs, some songs don't get loud enough, which seems to happen to a lot of people.  I'm not sure what you mean by "Speaker control" but if you're talking about the picture I posted of my speakers volume control.... I'm not using that... but will try thast again...

FLAC, MP3, and some m4as?

most of the songs are FLAC, some Mp3 (I would assume high quality), and I do see some .m4a?  Eurobeat at least

VGM songs are usually Mp3, what quality Idk...

My source is my laptop and VLC.

Here's what will probably be my last word on my audio impressions of the X2:

I have never heard any headphones anywhere in my life that get my head bopping and my toes tapping as quickly or as completely as the X2 does. Sometimes I start dancing in my seat and I don't even realize I'm doing it! I don't know what exactly it is about the X2, but it is insanely fun.

I really wonder how about its sound signature compared to IE80. I really like IE80 for symphonies. It's not bad it's different from 600. I don't want another 600. I returned 650 I bought on BF since its sound is too similar with 600.

IE80 is much closer to X2 in 'personality' than 600. It is kind of unfair to compare IEM to full sized opened cans, but I still feel the overall sound signature of the IE80 closer to X2 than to 600. IEMs and full sized cans obviously give a very different listening experience, but I can say the followings to compare: IE80 has tighter, more refined bass, with better low end extension. But that is about it. X2 sounds much more natural especially in mids and highs. IE80 feels a bit 'synthetic' in comparison. X2 is airier,  sounds much more 'speaker-like'. IE80 has great space, imaging, layering for an IEM. But still far from the openness and naturalness of a a full sized opened can. When I listen to X2, I don't really miss IE80s bass. But IE80 is more than a great compromise on the go. IMO no IEM will ever beat the listening experience of an opened full size.

At first I was mildly impress with reservation, however after 20'hrs, I'm more than satisfy. This hp really shines after burn it. The treble improves significantly. Clearer, more airy, and livelier.

Have you tried Earsonics Velvet? In my opinion, it is far better than most headphones out there. Tonality is amazing. Audition it if you have the chance. IE80 is garbage compared to it (so is the IE800).
