Hello there, I’m after a good set of In Ear Headphones for my daily runs. I tried several models over the years but all fell out, latest when I start sweating. Sound quality was/is another issue.

Now I'm planning to invest in customer sleeves from my local audiologist but got a couple of questions:

If I have the sleeves fitted on e.g. MEElectronics Sport-Fi M6 will the customer sleeves later fit other buds e.g. Shure SE215 buds… meaning, how different are the tips between different pods?

Is sweat going to be an issue if I choose a “non-sport” earbud like the Etymotics ER4P?

And of course any recommendation on suitable IEM are more than welcome! (budget up to $250 for the IEM only)

Thanks for your help in advance!

You mean custom eartips/sleeves.

Often the nozzles (onto which the tips fit) are totally different between manufacturers, so there's not much hope in finding one which fits all types. Most manufacturers will keep to a similar design, for example Shure have nozzles which are standard between the SE215 - SE535 (possibly SE846).

The 'sporty' label is more to do with the design of the headphones than with how they react to sweat, etc. Some might be able to be rinsed but that's it I'd say.

The ER-4PT is a solidly built earphone, and they have filters in the nozzles so any sweat going in will not harm the drivers. A good seal is important with them as the bass is a little light, but tight. I'd say they're fine for that purpose.

Hi Steve,

thanks for your reply.

Good point to stick to a particular brand. The chances of a fit ought to be better. Shure got a lot to offer, so perhaps that's the way to go. I just don't want to buy an IEM now, break it possibly in half a year and than realize that I need to get different sleeves for the next model I choose.

Good info also on the Etymotics, they are in my top 5!!
