How do you disable the microphone on Audacity so while recording a record, there is not extra noise?

I am fairly new to technology itself, but I have about 3,000 pounds of midcentury jazz, folk, classical, and experimental music that I want to burn.
One question I have seems fairly simple:
HOW DO YOU DISABLE THE MICROPHONE (while recording an LP for instance) ?
I played around with it and can not figure it out.

Thanks,

I believe what you are looking for is Preferences: Devices: Recording.
Choose whatever input you'd like (line, usb, optical etc.) and that should be the only input. If you're on a PC there might be some other weird stuff going on with the audio settings I don't know about.
