I ordered from this seller -
http://m.aliexpress.com/item/2050558896.html?productId=2050558896&productSubject=Donscorpio-Dolphin-metal-headphone-headset-earphone-with-microphone-and-remote-for-MP3-Smartphone-high-quality-free&tracelog=wwwdetail2mobilesitedetail
$88.70, I think it must be one of the cheapest around. The wait is the killer though, been nearly 3 weeks, but they are in the UK at least ☺️

Great find! I searched on Ali and it didn't come up.

Not sure exactly if they're too small, they're just a bit uncomfortable. Probably just my ears, somethings wrong with them, and every headphone feels screwed up D:  I also wear glasses, which makes things worse.  They do get much better after a couple minutes on my head, if I can just hit the spot. BTW when I said "hype" I meant the thrill of getting a new toy. Getting something I've been waiting for for weeks excites me, gets me biased. I still find them disappointing comfort wise, but boy do they sound nice! These really are fantastic to listen to.

Thanks for explaining the context of "hype" in your prior post.

I'm starting to hate the Dolphins because they're so good that I'm neglecting my IEM's. I'm not exactly an audiophile, but for most of my music I don't need anything better than these! I love the sound stage and the bright, natural sounding highs/treble, tight bass and full mids. But for anyone reading this don't purchase them based on my comments. I don't have much to compare them too.

I have medium to large size ears and they are completely covered by the ear cups. But as I mentioned, the ear cups are shallow which may impact the fit for some in a negative way. I also wear glasses, and the Dolphins are OK in that regard. My V-Moda XS on the other hand - not so comfortable when wearing glasses. As I also mentioned, the build quality could be better. Especially the head band. But for the price I can't really complain.

Ok, I received mine yesterday, had a lovely ball of bubble wrap covered in packing tape sitting on the table when I arrived home from work. Once I had got through the almost impenetrable packing (took a few minutes to get into!!) I was greeted by a rather nice matte black and slender box, with both English and Chinese descriptions all over it. I wont go into too much detail, but the case inside the box that comes with them is a bonus and will keep them safe, plus the two cables are a nice touch, though they aren't great quality. I must be honest, I tried the cable(s) and then swapped it immediately for a better one I had.
I had around 2 hours with them last night, and then my commute on London Underground this morning (around 1 hour 15) and I can confirm that these sound really very nice. They isolate much better than expected, I missed an announcement from the driver on the train this morning, and the two ladies chatting away in front of me may as well have been lip reading each other, so very happy with this side of things.
I will post better impressions once the new toy syndrome has worn off, and after a bit of burn in, but so far the treble is nice, a touch of sparkle and nicely extended with no sibilance. Mids are smooth and on par with the treble, and the bass has nice impact and extends down very nicely. Had a few ear tickling moments with some EDM tracks, and I can confirm the bass has a nice texture to it and is controlled. There were a few bass note changes on tracks I had not noticed before, previously they had seemed to be one long note, but now I can hear subtle differences.
I do not have an awful lot of experience with over head cans, but have had some time with a few of the more popular mid price phones (Momentum's, NAD's, a couple of Beyers and some decent Denon's) and I can say with confidence that these sound better than all of them!! Well at the moment they do lol, I'll report back once I have had some more critical listening and settled in with them.

Have you tried the asian headphone thread's soundstage mod?

From what I understand the trade off is increased sibilance, and even with the low cost of the Dolphins I don't want to risk that.

Have you tried the asian headphone thread's soundstage mod?
I have read about the mod, I mentioned it on the previous page and asked if anybody has thoughts about it. Yes, some had said it can make them sibilant but it opens up the soundstage, one guy recons that even this considered he wouldn't go back. But apparently its a b*%@h to do, and now I can see why. The pads aren't removable, and without asserting pressure somewhere or trying to pry them off its not obvious how to do it. At the moment I'm happy how they are, but once the itch sets in I might give it a try .

Haha
One more question:
What do you think about the build quality overall?

Im debating on either:
Getting into a little diy speaker build (i would love to experiment with the planar and ribbon tweeters on parts express)
Getting into an lm3886 based amp build
Headphones/iems

It's extremely good, especially considering all I paid was £55. It's a sprung steel headband, and all steel connections. The grip is rather good, it may annoy some but I'm on the move with these a a lot and they won't be falling off. The only plastic is the decoration across the top of the band, either side of the foam protection underneath the band, and the ear cup covers. The plastic looks tough and durable. We will have to see about the paint finish (scratches/scrapes) but again it looks well lacquered and (hopefully) scratch resistant. The vent on the cup cover looks like it goes all the way in, obviously a port of sorts, but it doesn't leak sound and covering them makes no decernable difference to the sound. Unusual......
The only possible weak point I can see so far is where the cup swivel goes into the main headband. It appears to go into a hard plastic (sorry, there is more!) grommet, but this may just be how it appears. There are 2 tiny screws each side at the point also, meaning that the cups can be taken off, and rapairs, should they be necessary, can be undetaken.

If you covert a pair of these into planars then please let me know how it goes, I've just come over all giddy thinking about it, and mine will be the post to you rather sharpish :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Thanks for the detail!
Now I'm really torn.

Before doing the mod on my Dolphins, I noticed that the soundstage was also wonky at times. With some electronic music, panning sound would occasionally jump from one side to the other in a weird way compared to my other headphones. That went away when I removed the tape and the soundstage was expanded.

They do have a bit of a treble spike, though. That's probably why they added the tape. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I was planning on adding a bit of Grado s-cush cup foam across the entire driver to see if that would calm it down a touch (it should).

I haven't noticed any imbalance, either with panning or soundstage, but are you able to explain how you safely removed the pads? And is the mod reversible if the results don't suit my tastes? Thanks

Calling to anybody that subcribes to, or happens across this thread that is a budding or fully fledged audiophile (or none of the above, but just loves their music and how it sounds). Do you own these cans? Can you please express your opinions on these compared to other cheap, mid priced or expensive cans you own or have heard, because I still can't really believe what I am hearing for the price!!!
I would like to post a review, but being a layman in audio terms I don't want to make a c*ck of myself by bigging these up when others would completely disagree.
Any and all opinions welcome. Thanks for listening :)

Have you used a tone generator to test? There could be a problem at a particular frequency.

See: http://plasticity.szynalski.com/tone-generator.htm

Try at higher volume, and hold away from your ears to isolate any audio problem/defect. If balance is available on your player, test one channel at a time.
This is a great way to test new headphones and IEM's.

I can confirm that the sound is warm, not so v shaped. Nice treble articulated and tight bass but not for bassheads. It is that good!
