Westone W60 Impressions Thread

I feel there are too many failures to be user caused. Perhaps Westone could offer a discount on Parts/Repairs.I did Email them, about replacement shells, but they stated, shells only come with the earphones. Why?.

You are right.. Although their sound is real good, the build quality is too cheap for its pricing.. I emailed them and see how they response..

How is this iem with standalone source as iPhone? I want to buy a pair but will it be good or go with downer models?

I use the IPhone 6plus,and its perfectly fine with the W60. Depending how you are fixed money wise, i also used the 4R with excellent results. I use different Dacs a lot of the time, but thats another story. If you can afford it, the W60 is better than the 4R.( In my opinion.)

My W60s sound wonderful straight into my iPhone 6 Plus. However, using a small amp (I have a FiiO A3) gives you a bit more bass punch. It's not necessary, but a nice enhancement.

Mine is a special case, I bought my W60 during my trip in Japan, but not directly from their online store or local dealer.

And now their support site are not willing to accept my repair to be sent to their headquarter as they say all products must go thru their mass distributor network first, which in my case is in Japan. After several emails telling them that I do not live in Japan, they used quite a rude tone to say if I want to send to them, I can but I might have to deal with customs. And they said they won't be able to give me an estimate on the potential repair cost until they receive my earphone. They also yellow highlighted a sentence say a hard copy proof of purchases must be provided for warranty service.

I felt them to be unprofessional and rude when dealing with customers when clearly it is their earphone's quality issues. I have seen many of you mentioned about quality issue, but I still give it a try as I really like their sound and I thought I won't be so bad luck..

So for now, I guess I will just keep it as is until it break down completely.. And I will not purchase any products from this company anymore..

Excellent IEMs, terrible customer service. Why can't they sell the shells separately?. They only cover them for 90 days, when new,so they stated in my Email from them. They were not any help at all.

Actually you can buy the shell somewhere else.. Not sure those are authentic or not, but it won't hurt as that is purely aesthetic component..

Bought w60 today. My source is iphone 6 and I have zero bit track. I hear hiss sound when I place the volume on middle. And in store test unit had great soundstage but now the singer is singing in my head maybe closer. And the face plate has a gap and won't fit on earphone perfectly. Oh man the build quality is really crap. In compare to se846 it feels like a child's toy. Even my sennheiser monentum in ear has better quality and it's just 100 bucks.

None of that should effect sound stage. You used the same source to try in the store? Weird the faceplate isn't fitting correctly. Is it possible that you have a different model with a w60 plate? I wouldn't put it past anyone to do some sneaky ass crap like that.

Yes I've used the same source in store. And same songs.

and here is the picture of faceplate. And it writes under the faceplate w60 and write w60 on faceplate so I'm sure faceplates are for this product.

I've left it for burn in. Hope it helps on soundstage.

I've had my W60's since last October. They are the most comfortable and best-sounding IEM I've heard. With that said, the faceplate issue plagues this model (and Westone acknowledges it). I just sent in my original pair because of connector problems (sound would cut out when the connector was pushed or twisted). I received a new pair back with gold faceplates attached. I listened to them for 2 hours and put them away. The next morning I saw a crack below the set screw on the right phone. I know it will spread and the faceplate will eventually split in half. I've had this happen numerous times before.

I sent this photo to Westone, and they apologized and will send me replacements. Actually, I really don't want any more replacements. I'd rather see a fix, e.g. a newly-styled faceplate that WON'T crack on the W60 body. So, Westone customer service has been responsive to my issues, and I do appreciate the 2 year warranty. Until Westone fixes this problem (I hope, I hope), I may experiment with putting a light drop of rubber glue on both halves of the faceplate to 1) help cushion and support the plate to fill in the 'gap'  2) in the event of a fracture, hold the faceplate onto the body so you don't lose it. The rubber glue shouldn't mar the surface of the phone and can be removed by rubbing it off.

BTW, while my W60's were in for repair, I listened to my UE Triple Fi 10 Pro's for a few weeks. They are good phones, but can't match the musical texture, detail, sound stage and imaging of the W60. Granted, they were less than half the cost. So, for those who just purchased the W60, it was a smart decision, but just be aware of the faceplate issue. Of course this doesn't effect the sound one iota. Using the phones without the faceplates, to me, is like driving a new car without wheel covers.
