I listen mostly to electronic music (ALL genres in electronic). I would not describe my self as a basshead, but I enjoy punchy, tight, well-extended bass - I just don't want the bass to dominate the overall sound balance, because I also enjoy a lively midrange (I listen to a lot of vocal female trance) and a clear treble (as well as a wide soundstage).

Speaking purely sound-wise (ignoring price, comfort etc), I'm very much in doubt if I would prefer the M50x or the HP50.

I would be extremely thankful, if someone who has listened to both HP50 and M50x, could give me some help here.

I thought so too initially. I think overall HP50 is slightly superior (slightly more balanced midrange, slightly bigger soundstage), but M50x in turn got slightly more bass, and more extended upper treble.

According to reviews they seem overall to both have the same neutral/slightly warm sound signature, with good imaging, clear sound, extended tight bass-response, with HP50 having the upper hand in terms of more refined sound and slightly larger soundstage, while M50x has slightly better upper-treble response, and slightly punchier base (which some dislike of course).

As I listen mostly to electronic, I wonder if HP50's superior technicality makes it better sounding in electronic music than M50x, that in turn seems slightly more tuned to it with it's slightly heavier bass response.

Meh im writing too much, I haven't heard any of them, and yeah, I just want some opinions from someone who have heard both. :)

I realize you're trying to distill people's comments into feedback about both headphones.  This is a terrible idea.  As Astropin mentioned, they are in different classes. Why don't you try them all and form your own opinion?

Here's what I think - the M50x is an entry level audiophile headphone that provides incredible sound for a small cost.   The HP50 is a remarkably better headphone that is more expensive but provides even better value for the money.

The M50x has bloated bass and a small degree of sibilence.  The sound stage is small and intimate.  The NAD Viso HP50 has tight, controlled bass with a more enveloping sound stage.  The treble is controlled and I can't detect any sibilence.  The details are sharper and easier to catch.

On my scale of 1 (Koss KSC 35 powered by an iPhone) to 10 (LCD3 amped with a Woo Audio 7), I would give the M50x a 2 and the NAD Viso a 6.  You'll figure out your own scale once you try out a few more headphones.

I listen to mostly electronic as well.

Well I'm about to find out about the HP50's.......just ordered a pair. (2nd pair of cans in a month!)

No worries, I bought in same month - Sony MA900, Alessandro MS1i and Shure 940, hence rest of month was eating music (best part of the story)

Really interested to have more comparison about these two...

I hear you.  I have both and I wrote my comparison down in the post before you responded.

This is the truth. I have both. The m50x sounds great for it's price point. But in comparison to the hp50 it sounds like an amateur headphone (bass isn't as tight, more closed in, midrange is flat and more recessed). One thing, the hp50 amped with the fiio e12 with bass boost on (for some songs, not all) gets an 8 in my book. Just amping it gives it at least a point more IMO.

Thanks, you just convinced me not to sell my pair of NAD. There was a sale on the Hifiman HE-400i for $299. Was going to sell the NAD and upgrade to these but I think I'll kee them now. Not many better options for a good pair of closed cans (yes I know the 400i are open backs)
