oh... Just ordered the ak100ii, hopefully I like it. Going to order the 120ii next week and do a head to head and keep whichever I like better. Go me!!

Couldn't live without her.
Can't live with her sometimes, but thats what CIEM's are for.

It has nothing to do with the OS. The connector and protocols are a like. So there should not be any issue with the AK100 II in a technical context.
As for support of the max size, there you could run into issue addressing huge capacities to which i cannot answer. Bye and try .... it is only a couple of $.

Success!!

I did order it. Yes, I was concerned about the new AK120 II supporting the 256GB card, not the adapter.
Someone in this forum had successfully used this and 256 GB SD card on their first gen AK120. But, it is a different platform. I thought, I will ask around, before I order the 256 GB PNY card.

Sorry to keep this off topic, but ...
I don't ask my wife about the prices of shoes and cosmetics that she mail orders regularly.
She doesn't ask me about the price of the audio hobby items I bring in.

Back to subject. Love my AK120II, haven't picked up my Sony ZX-1 since I received it about a month ago.

big difference between the 120 and zx1? I ditched my zx1 as soon as I bought the older Rwak120b.

Good question, I'll have to compare them better, but off the top of my head, the 120II just has better over all sound. They are both neutral, but the 120II has a more musical flavor to it. Yet the 120II also has better details.
Both are good, but the 120II is better. I also have the original AK100, modified into a Rwak, and I thought that one was not better than the  Sony, even though that was a great player as well.

Considering that one can get a used Sony for half the price of the AK120II, we may be comparing apples and oranges. Heck, the Sony is an excellent deal at the current $600/700 that I have seen it used for in the for sale forums, and ditto with the used AK100's.

I have the ak120 and calyx M, I like to use my Parterre's with the ak120 and my Lab 1's with the M. I am considering potentially upgrading the ak120 to an ak120II - if there is a decent SQ jump. I am sure a comparison between the ak120 and the ak120II exists in this thread somewhere but to save my sanity in trying to find it can anyone provide a couple of the key points re SQ that the AK120II may be better than the AK120? thanks, and sorry to be a pain.

I just bought and AK100mk2 for a bit less than the used Sony prices so..... I liked my old AK120 but really prefer the size of the AK100 so I thought I'd give the Mk2 version of the old player a try. If I want more, I can always send it to Mezzo. I also liked having 2 card slots along with buttons. New players are manageable but larger as well.

I do hope you are ready to sell that RWAK120, it is likely to help prevent your unfortunate and early death.

Yes, sold it last night to a fellow head-fier. I'm hoping I don't regret it... this morning I am having second thoughts... But it's too late now. Regardless, I really wanted one of the newer units, I'm just hoping I enjoy the sound sig as much as the Rwak120b. I plan on sending whichever AK I choose to keep to Vinnie, unless I completely despise the sound, then Calyx M will be ordered.

Doubtful you'll regret buying the AK100ii. As far as DAPs go... It's just right for me and I won't be upgrading for the forseeable future. Fantastic sounding player and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I had initially picked up the AK100II but ended up exchanging it for the AK120II. The AK100II is a *great* player, not to mention a touch lighter and more compact, with a nicer looking design & case than the AK120II. The difference between the two is subtle and probably not sufficient to justify the price differential for most sane people.

Though I opted for the 120II anyway . The clarity is a touch better, the soundstage is a touch wider. It makes my jaw drop just a little bit more, as I listen to my 24/96 tracks. I would have for sure been very satisfied with the AK100II, if I hadn't known there was something out there that's a touch better. (I didn't even consider the 240 as the 120II was at the limit of what I was comfortable paying).

Warrior1975, I'll be interested to hear which one you end up keeping.

I am almost certain, unfortunately, it will be the 120ii. I'm trying to keep a open mind, but it's difficult.

I went for the 100ii,  I was pushing my budget at $1200 for a DAP, so stretching to $2000 was out of the question for me.

I am interested to hear your thoughts though.

I had the DX90 and the ak100ii at the same time, was trying to choose which one to keep.

I really loved the dx90.  When I first listen to the ak after the DX90 it sounded sterile and dull, boring.

The DX was just so engaging and musical and exciting to me.

BUt the more time I spent with the AK, and the more hours I put on it (dont know how much of it was brain/gear burn in) I really come to appreciate the AK's presentation.

It is more refined, wider and smoother.

2 ways to describe them.

DX90 is like a teenager, eager to impress the girl.  THrowing everything they have at it off the bat.
THe AK is like someone in their mid/late 20's, they know the score, they dont feel the need to impress, but they know they got this.

Alternatively, THe DX90 is like getting the details delivered on Mike Tysons gloves... The AK is like wrapping yourself up in your favourite doonah that is covered in the details.

I could go on but I am boring myself, let alone you folks.

But all in all, both good DAPs, just different.
