Fiio X5 - Custom/Modded firmwares

Mar 30, 2015 at 11:42 AM Post #1,711 of 2,615
So, trying to get my first mod - called 'BLOCKED' - going, but I'm doing it on a Mac (running Windows in Parallels) which won't let me use the pack/unpack tools no matter what I try, so having to do some things 'blind' based on the unpacked fw on the first page of this thread & need a bit of help from those of you more experienced than I.

I have 2 main questions - the first is how/if it is possible to alter the scrolling sequence in the launcher? The second are there any restrictions on the size of the battery bar?

Anyone got the time (or inclination) to advise?

In an effort to tempt someone's interest, this is the boot animation & launcher screen...

Thanks HBB - I like the minimalism on your top bar on Hi-Vinyl & am going for a similar approach but want it a bit longer - apologies in advance if you feel it's borrowing.

You can't change the order. You can change which is first in a line or relative positions in a circular pattern, but the order is fixed.
Yes @x RELIC x is the person to ask about battery bars...

So if I move the 'EQ' to the bottom (stock sequence) it should work?... Have a version set up that way, but it's less pleasing aesthetically.

Yes...then Playback and System would need to be at the top so they are scrolled in order, so it messes up your yellow text too.

Edit; Interesting - there seem to be 2 distinct camps for linear launchers, one that starts with Browse Floders and one that starts with Playback Settings...

If it's possible to start with Browse folders, why would Playback and System Settings need to move? I thought I read on an earlier page that provided the sequence stays the same, the starting point can be moved?

Playback and Settings only need to move if you want EQ at the bottom. It;s all fine as you have it.
You can still put EQ at the bottom, but it will cause a jump in the scroll sequence unless the same order is preserved.

Ah, ok - thought that the way I have it here wouldn't scroll correctly - many thanks!

Good. It's really going to be helpful if you can gret the pack and unpack tools running in Parallels.
They are just batch scripts, so you may have success by entering the commands directly in a DOS window.

Pack = packtools --pack -i x5 -o x5.fw -m x5
Unpack = packtools --unpack -i x5.fw -o x5

Just make sure that packtools.exe is in the current directory.

With regard to the order it is indeed fixed.

Because the launcher always starts on Now Playing my order always goes like this:

Browse folder - Categories - Favorites - Now Playing - EQ - Play settings - System Settings

This way the Now Playing is centered between the other options. That's how I like it. You can not change the selection order but you can list them however you like. Start with Favorites and end with Categories for example, just start the list how you want but you need to maintain this order.

The easiest way to adjust the battery icon is to set the coordinates to 0 and create an image that is the same resolution as the top bar and create a .png that has the battery icon and transparency where you want it in the top bar. Open my 'Analogue_battery' theme to see what I mean. It's extremely easy to line it up this way with no guessing in Photoshop.

The other option is to play with the icon size (no taller than the topbar resolution) and coordinates to place the battery images. There are vertical (Y) and horizontal (X) coordinates that define where the battery images are placed so you will need to play with those and find the right position that suits what you are trying to do. The coordinates for the Y axis start from the top of the screen and the X axis starts from the left side of the screen and they position the upper left corner of the battery images. Knowing this you can figure out how low you want the battery icon to be from the top and how far to the right you want it to be so it doesn't overlap the timer, mSD, play/pause buttons. This obviously takes more testing and flashing to make sure you get it right.

Hope this helps. :)
