RCA Y splitter box (1 in -> 2 out)

Hi,

I have 2 headphone amps and just one DAC. I'd like to be able to feed both amps from my DAC. Is there some RCA Y splitter box that you guys can recommend for this purpose? Obviously, it has to support good quality audio over it.

Thank you in advance.

I have to say that I'm aware of RCA Y splitter cables but I'm interested in a box... Anyway, looks like I will be on my own since no one really is here..))

Allegedly the Schiit SYS can be reversed to accomplish what you want. You just need to keep the volume up all the way for optimum results.

Hey, thanks! I just sent Schiit email to verify this.

Schiit just replied telling me to use RCA Y splitter cables. Though, they didn't deny a possibility of using SYS they wouldn't recommend it.

Why don't you want to use Y splitter cables? Do you want a switch instead of a split?

For the record, I use splitter cables to feed a headphone amp and powered monitors from a single DAC. I also use the SYS to switch sources and control volume to the powered monitors.

Cheers

I guess I was under impression that by using Y splitter cables I will be somewhat losing the signal quality from my DAC since it is going to distribute it across 4 cables instead of 2. So, my initial thought was to have a switch box instead. I guess my concern isn't really legit according to some research that I recently did.

That is correct. Line level inputs are much higher impedance than line level outputs. Splitting the signal across two inputs will have negligible impact on the quality of the signal

Yeap. I'm going to try that. Thank you.
Though, I'm surprised that there is no good switch box out there...

If you only need to use one amp at a time, the Niles AXP1 is great. It's a switcher, not a splitter. High quality build with room for more devices.

I'm actually looking for exactly opposite type. Just one input and at least 2 outputs.

Thanks though.

The only one that I found so far is this one: http://www.ambery.com/1in3outcovis.html

Although, it looks too cheap and has video input/outputs too, which I definitely don't need...

Thanks though.

It works exactly the same in the reverse. It's just a switch. It doesn't care that it's labeled the way that it is smily_headphones1.gif

I used it for hooking up my DAC to two headphone amps and a speaker amp so I could switch the output between them.

Oh, really? Nice! Then this is exactly what I need. By the way, is that thing passive or require some power?

It's passive. The reason I went with it is that it's a dial switch, a heavy duty one. All the other cheaper ones I saw on Amazon were those push button plastic things with all the other AV components. In contrast, the entire casing on Nile is metal. More of a commercial/pro audio grade component.
