Thanks for your quick response! Hmmm... I just may have to take this plunge and get them (I write as I scan the room for things to sell off).

You will be blown away with how these sound with Tera. Just make sure you burn them in and not judge them as soon as you receive them. I have been burning mine in for about 5 days now and it's incredible how much better they sound then when I first tried them after unpacking (so I have over 100 hours now and my understanding is they will still continue to improve towards 300 hours).

A pic before you take the plunge...

Nice! I like to justify these high-end purchases with thoughts like, 'This will provide me years of audio pleasure. $1,450 comes out to about $3.97 a day over the course of a year. Isn't it worth $3.97 to listen to the best possible sound each day?' Heh heh heh!!!

I read AnakChan's review of the Ref 1s here: http://www.head-fi.org/products/tralucent-audio-ref-1/reviews/11061#comments-title

He said the isolation was, "Due to the light seal and the vented port, isolation is average for my fit." How do you feel about their isolation? I live in NYC and have to contend with loud street noise and subways. Do you think I'll get along ok with the Ref 1's isolation? I need a solid seal.

I did use the Ref. 1 on commuting and found it has resonalble seal.

I primarily use 1plus2 and now Ref 1 while traveling to work - this means NJ Transit, NYC subways, and also walking the NYC streets and have no problem with isolation.
However, you may have to spend some time experimenting with tips - took me almost a month of trying various things until I found a combination that works well for me with my 1plus2  (one large tip and one medium tip in my case) - good thing is that those same tips now work well for Ref 1 which is basically identical build/shape as 1plus2.

Some IEM's/Buds that I have found play well with my Tera:

Klipsch X10 if you like warm SQ.
Etymotic ER4PT if you like neutral
Audeo PFE 232 if you like one of the best.
Yuin PK1 if you like good buds
Blox Aniversary III if you like outstanding buds (and can find a pair)

Modified Koss PortaPro if you like really inexpensive but great sound in a light headphone.

All owned by me and used extensively with my Tera-Player.

I've also read and heard from fellow Head-Fi members that the JVC FX-850 'woodies' play exceptionally well with the TP.

I remember that post when I was first looking at phones for Tera.
Ended up buying Klipsch, Yuin, and Koss from that list.
Later on I added Hifiman RE-600 and Beyer DT-1350.
It's funny how this works - I thought most of these were fine with Tera, but that was before I bought 1plus2 - after that I literally stopped using all of the above (and now only using Ref 1).
If I had to rank all phones I have for Tera in terms of SQ this is the order:

X10 < DT-1350 < RE-600 < PK1 < PortaPro < 1plus2 < Ref 1.

And I think 1plus2 and Ref 1 really stand out far above the rest.

Tera, Ref.1, Uber

flymetothemoon, I know you prefer the Uber cables over the stock silver/gold however if I buy the Ref 1s I will use the stock. I'm ashamed to admit I am a little shy about getting the stock cables once someone like yourself (who seems to know audio) recommends a different cable. I guess I just need to get over my insecurity about it and be assured that Gavin knows what he's doing and that I'd be happy with what I get!

Don't carry this in mind...your new stock silver/gold will serve you well.

I just brought out the silver and will use it for the next few days in the office with the Tera.  I've been using uber/balanced with AK240 for a while and now refresh myself a bit back to the Tera/Ref.1 combo.
