The Hardest hitting Headphones are.. ( "The EXTREME BASS Club")

I haven't been here in awhile hoping you guys can help me. I'm still on the hunt for that Sony xb500 successor that is at least as good or better, unamped, comfort and bass wise. I've been searching for years but can't find anything. Hopefully there are some recommendations you guys can offer based on any newly released headphones?

I have tried the M-100s which sounded awesome but they were not comfortable to me. They were far too tight/heavy on my head. I purchased the bigger pads and it was still the same. I really liked the sound though such a shame.

I also tried the Xb950 and the comfort wasn't there either. They pinched my ears and sounded somewhat low to me didn't notice a big improvement over the xb500.

Any other cans I can try out under $300 preferably? Will V-Moda release another line anytime soon something perhaps more comfortable?

Thanks for reading

I got the M100s, and the sound is excellent. It is extremely clean, well balanced, and looks awesome. I did have a similar issue to yours though, it was sort of tight. I could only wear them for about 2 hours (time flies when you're listening to sick music through sick cans) before my left ear started whining like a little %#@!%

The XL pads do help though. My recommendation to you would be to place the headphones over an object whose width is about 0.5-1" (no more) larger than your head, and leave it there overnight. It'll relieve the tension by ever so slightly stretching out the band (just needs some break-in). If you use an object that is too large though, the headphones would put pressure on the top of you head. This worked for me, I could not return them since the sound is just that good.

Still trying to get my hands on the E5 - looks like it is pretty cool stuff but more is appropriate for IEMs than for headphones. Dude...

For IEMs, earbuds and other low power headphones it's still a good choice. I'm actually using it right now. ASG 2.5 in one headphone jack and Shozy Cygnus in the other.

Also good for bass boosting phones that blow out when using traditional hardware bass boost on amps like C5, arrow, etc

Doubt it has more than 200-300mW to each headphone out if that, so yeah it's all great with IEMs, but I tried it for a few minutes with some SZ2000 and was very unimpressed.

I've been using it with IEMs and earbuds ever since I slammed it with the paper test post, so it's not all bad, but if you decide to install the Windows software bundle, you're in for a lot of cursing and dealing with Device Manager. so use the phone app to customize the E5's SBX/EQ/etc if possible

But yeah regardless of its utter failure on the paper test I like it enough not to take advantage of my 30 day no question return policy.

edit: It can also be used line out into a different amp. I bet used as a portable DAC you could strap a C5 to it, use the line out, and let two of your friends use the E5's two headphone outs. It's also worth mentioning it has Bluetooth with whatever that fancy Bluetooth codec is for allowing you to stream without dropouts... either way, it's useful for when I'm at friends' houses, and they have a bluetooth controlled stereo, everyone's playing music off their phones, and I just have my DAP

How much improvement would you guys say the TH900 has over the TH600 in terms of (1) overall SQ; and (2) bass?

Bump.

Some folks think the TH600 can be pushed harder in the bass. Takes unique settings and DSP via Cowon but it did some awesome stuff.
TH900 is higher on the list cuz it (that result) could not be repeated with other units but the ones we used ...the bass boost wasn't even on in one vid that never was put up and it was shaking that paper more than the th900 with bass boost (e12)

Something I just noticed in the Taction Kannon Kickstarter...

To try these headphones in person is to understand a new level of musical realism, immersion, and audio depth.  But not everyone can try them during the short span of a Kickstarter campaign.  Accordingly, we offer a 15-day unconditional money-back guarantee (buyer pays return shipping).  If you don't like them, send them back and we will refund your money, no questions asked.

Hey guys! I know the Taction Kannon has been a topic of discussion in this thread, and wanted to let you know that the good folks over at Taction have given me an exclusive sneak peek at their new Kannon prototype:

I've had a couple of days with this headphone now, and I must say, I am super impressed! I posted some extended impressions in MLE's headphone gaming thread here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-3-18-2016-mrspeakers-ether-c-1-1-added/35010#post_12518265

While the open version is a hair less bassy than the closed back version in sound signature, it still offers the EXTREME vibration sensation, along with a pretty impressive soundstage. I've been getting a real kick out of the brain rattling slam these babies offer with all kinds of EDM, dubstep, etc. Not to mention the fact that they are killer for gaming! I had a couple of friends try them out at the office, and they were just giggling, they were so much fun. One of my buddies, who isn't even an audiophile, jumped on the Kickstarter immediately, lol!

Let me know if you guys have any questions about them or whatever. I have to send these back soon, but the impressions are still fresh in my mind, so, if there is something you want to know, fire away!
