Loves nicely laid out ones and zeros

Seriously, speed at that sample frequency can be an issue, I might need the output one day if I ever buy a desktop amp/dac so that means I should really pay attention to its function and performance.

Yeah. Didn't think about the 192khz issue. Simply a problem with bandwidth/processing power. Resampling to anything lower easily fixes that, but it's still unconvenient (although it saves some space).

The DX50 has problems keeping up with 24/192 stored on the SD card (the clicking bug, confirmed by Ibasso). The DX90 should not have this issue, making the zeroes and ones a lot prettier.

I have been using the DX90 as a transport for the Hugo. No problems at all with 24/192 and coax out or just using the DX90.

Have to ask... you all know that protector with the labels and big old DX90 comes off right?  Please tell me it comes off

Isn't it weird that nobody, especially  Jamato will comment on the DX90 vs DX100?

I think many DX100 owners are waiting for this comparison before thinking about a new purchase

Looking forward to any new reviews that shed light on this

You will have to wait, people are just starting to get the DX90. They may have different priorities comparing DX90 with.

I think DX90 is definitely not meant to be a successor or replacement for DX100.  If you need the power to drive full size headphones, DX90 won't have enough juice.  If you need a pocketable DAP for on-the-go use with IEMs, you won't need DX100's bulk and juice.  I had long sold my DX100 but would quote myself from another thread on my brief impression from memory:

It's been a while since I sold my DX100 or heard one, but I do feel DX90 sounds less sterile while maintaining the great resolution and details with quite a neutral FR that I loved from the DX100.  It won't be too much to say DX90 suits me better than the DX100 as I mostly use DAP with IEMs.  I'm also trying to get a DX100 to compare and confirm my assessment.

I'll post my impressions here as well:

After a while with the DX90 I can confidently report that I am hearing some things out of the Dunus that I haven't heard before out of any combo. The DAC and amp in this is absolutely amazing.

The bass is more or less the same in quantity as the DX50, both are quite neutral in the bass area. I do, however, get an impression that the bass is a little heavy because the DX90 has better sub-bass performance and that makes the sound seem a little on the thick side. Now that I think about it, it's probably the DX50 that lacks a little bit of sub-bass rather than the DX90 having a boosted sub-bass region. The bass is slightly more detailed and has better clarity.

The midrange is ever so slightly on the warm side, but that might just be me. The DX50 sounds a bit peaky in the upper midrange/lower treble area, which results in it making some headphones sound sibilant or lifting a veil on darker headphones. The DX90 is a little closer to neutral but it leans a tiny bit to the warm side, but this is likely to change with burn in.

The treble is cleaner and less grainy than the DX50. It feels a little bit more controlled and less fatiguing than the very slightly bright DX50. This makes the treble less fatiguing and less prone to sibilance. For me, this is a big plus since the DX50 could get a little tiring to listen to for long periods of time. It does very well with the bright Dunu DN-1000s. Let's see how it will turn out after some burn in.

The soundstage along with the imaging is perhaps the largest upgrade of all. The DX90 makes the DX50's soundstage narrow and shallow. This is very evident throughout the entire time, but the occasional cymbal on the sides of the stage make it even more obvious. The depth and height of the soundstage has also been improved quite a bit, but not as much as the width.

The imaging is simply stunning. The pinpoint imaging and the fact that the DX90 can make it seem like there are layers in the music is not there in the DX50 or even the X5 that I tested.

The separation and detail is also something that I have to mention. It has revealed minute details in the music that I have never heard with my Dunus and it makes some details in the background much more noticeable. This is absolutely incredible because the DX50 is already a very detailed player, besting the X3 (IMO) in this regard.

The DX90 has absolutely blown my mind. It sounds so damn good and it costs a relatively small sum of $420 compared to other players. It is also mentioning the build is extremely solid: the custom jacks and the buttons all feel like they are built to last. The touchscreen is a little too sensitive, but iBasso will most likely correct this problem in the near future. It is hard to imagine something besting at this price. iBasso have really outdone themselves.

I can't see anybody being disappointed with the DX90. My only suggestion is to correct the touchscreen scrolling problem. The DX50 is fine, but I accidentally select songs when scrolling with the DX90.

At home or desktop setup DX50 + Rockbox paired with O2 or UHA-6SMKII is hard to beat. I even doubt DX90 would be better alone. However, on a walkabout usage scenario I think is where DX90 will beat DX50 hands down.

Just read this and IMO my DX90 beats my DX50 with UHA760 and O2. I wished the battery life was longer, at least 10 hours though.

Do you have any hifiman's like the HM700,802 or 901? Preferably the 700 or 802 so that to stay in the price range.

Just the hm901....

greetings from HK :)
just got mine an hour ago.
I have dx50, dx100 and now dx90
My first impression on dx90 is that it defo worths its price (I got it with ~370usd). It sounds more like dx100 thanks to the dual 9018 dac
