Well, the DX90 >> Hugo >> HD800 is also sublime... just sayin.... the musicality is just incredible~~

I've just returned to 2.0 FW and the difference between 2.1 is a night and day. Now I remember why I bought DX90 over DX50 and the fact this DAP has two dac chips. Soundstage again is incredibly vast and has a depth(!). I suspect that in blind test I couldn't distinguish DX90 2.1 of the iphone 5s which despite a worse musicality sounds very simiar to the 2.1. I know how it sounds, it's however my personal opinion.

Update
I could swear I hear some micro details with 2.0 I haven't heard with 2.1, What? Maybe it's because of different scene creation. Now there is no harshness at all, better separation, better musicality, just another level. ath-a900x gains significantly. I'm just amazed.

I've been staying on 2.0 all along.  Never felt any need to "upgrade" my firmware :)

It happens that there are two almost equivalent threads for DX90, and it also happened that I posted announce of my firmware tweaks into the other one.

Please note that, most probably, I will not duplicate my answers, keeping them all in one (aforementioned) thread only.

Just to check though, when using the Hugo, the DAP is only being used as a source, right? So the DX90 isn't really the reason that it sounds good?

No worries, I read both threads:D

after using the dx90 over two months, i am rather surprised that none of the three firmware varianta can keep up with the precise and clear sound of a Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro or a Yamaha CX-1000 preamp (48/16 resultion only). For example, the piano music of Keith Jarrett´s Cologne concert in 96/24 resolution sounds more natural and authentic on both desktop equipments - high fidelty just.

Anyway,  i love my dx90 and it´s sound variations - performs much better than the former "more muddy" FiiO X3.

I use to have Sound Blaster Audigy 4 and yes is sound amazing, but now I think the Creative sound card is more towards on the gaming sound no more on the Hifi or muisc. Of course the DX90 will sound superior than the X3, the price & the category are not the same.

hi guyz, why I can not update the firmware to 2.0 from 2.1?
from 2.1 to 2:05 it can be done and there is no problem

There are directions on the 1st page. You need a PC and then download the SW to do it.

Not sure why technically that is the case, but that's correct - you can't downgrade the firmware to the original version without using a special tool on Windows (I think it's called RKBatch or something, it's in this thread, probably on front page) and you can't do it at all on a Mac I believe..
