The problem with the msata is that the hardware for it is way larger than a basic sd...

i got really curious about FiiO X7, i wanted to buy dx90 but now i am waiting....

any release date? i know in 2015 but which month?

maybe in June. but it is too early to tell the ETA.  BTW, we may only sell to our old customer when we have not enough stock. and the old customer may get special discount for the X7. there are couples reason for this.

1, It is a special feedback to our royal customer who supported us in the past.

2, the old customer know well about our style, they know what they will get and what we will bring to them. to them FiiO is a brand they can trust.

3, It is a common situation when a new model is released.

Again, the X7 will have digital volume control, and from my reading "actual" DSD needs an analog volume control.

Also, from my reading "Native" DSD means it will play in the device even though it is being converted to 24 bit for playback.  Still sounds good on my X5.

May, June, whenever you get it done is fine.

I hopped off the iBasso bandwagon partly because that company didn't respond to user's feedback, the website was down monthly, and, well, because in my opinion the X5 was a much better player than was the DX50 (which I sold).  I can't speak to the DX90, never had one.
James, even though I purchased my X5 and my X1 from a US seller I hope you grandfather me in to the early purchase group.

mSATA card slot instead of an SD slot. mSATA currently support 1tb and its slightly larger than an SD and about 10 times the read and write speed.

not sure whether the Android files system can supports such huge storage.

It's great idea to offer special discount. Maybe some upgrade program for early birds? Like our old X5 + 350$:)
I just wonder who gets to be "the old customer"...

The above 2 posts are several months old and I still feel the same way - mSATA support could be a huge killer feature to differentiate the X7 from all the other competitors. This single feature could make a huge difference to the sales numbers of the X7.

James, if your team possibly can implement mSATA into the X7, I really urge you to seriously consider doing so. Look at the current DAP marketplace. Look at your competitors. No one (not even A&K) is taking large capacity seriously, yet.

Even standard Redbook 16/44.1  .flac  takes a lot of storage space, and the first DAP to implement mSATA could make an absolute killing.
Many audiophiles are just waiting for a DAP that can offer them 1tb of storage space without having to spend $600-$700 on a 512gb Sandisk SD card (so 1TB = $1200 - $1400 !!).   Whereas, the current price for a 1TB mSATA = $430

$430 is still quite a chunk of cash, but for a huge 1TB of capacity, and excellent memory speed, it is MUCH better value than SD cards.

Could Android support 1TB mSATA if the drive is partitioned into 2x 512mb?

I believe you could almost double your number of sales for the X7 if you incorporate an mSATA slot. Many of us are totally sick of being ripped-off for high-capacity SD cards.

Pardon for mentioning another brand, but my iBasso DX90 works just fine with 2TB (NTFS) WD My Passport Ultra via USB OTG. Of course, with external power supply, but the question was about disk size. BTW this was one of the reasons I've chosen DX90 over X5!

Android is able to support mSATA. from my work with android it is able to. It would be pretty slow, because that is a ton of memory, but it is possible. also, the energy required could be a little more than what microsd uses.

But as everyone said, FIIO, you really should implement mSATA into your devices. That would be the killer feature that would make more sells than any other player on the market.

i also know that it would be hard to implement, could drain a little more energy, and it could get a little trickyer to implement, but really, it would be worth it!

if you could do that, even by raising the price with a little, it would be okay. it would be the only player on the market that supports mSATA.

+5......that also makes the X7 to -next level- in storage and also make FiiO unique even among the top tier DAP territory and also its futuristic, first DAP mfr to implement, in DAP history......just a side slot like mSD with dust cap?.....
