I'm actually quite surprised with this firmware after reading all the Doom and Gloom.  The installation went smoothly and the sound quality to my ears is better then 2.0.  The Bass seems where it should be (I dont use any EQ) and everything seems to be layered better with a lovely wide soundstage.  I like it!

The Fiio music app seems a bit of a mess, but i understand this is a Beta and it is being worked on.  The initial Music scan was taking forever, I cancelled it and am just navigating by the folders for now.

One thing that i have found odd is the way the firmware handles secondary launchers, I like to use Nova Launcher, but found pressing the home button would always revert to the default ugly launcher.  The previous firmwares were also a bit odd around this, where the default launcher would reset after rebooting, it was annoying but workable..I spent a couple of hours trying to get around this last night and finally success!

Here's a bit of a rough guide for anyone who may be interested :-

***DISCLAIMER - requires Root and if you ever need to factory reset or anything goes wrong you will have to flash firmware again using the same method used to install it originally on your computer***

Edit - while this did work fine, i've rebooted the device several times since i did this last night and it had worked fine; however while not in use on my desk as i typed up this guide the device had just shut down itself (Crash?), and upon rebooting has booted straight into the Fiio music app, as if in Pure Music mode..

1, Factory Reset the Device
2, Root using your preferred method - Kingroot is the easiest
3, Download your preferred launcher, run it once and attempt to set it as default launcher (from the launcher's settings) - I reccomend either Nova Launcher or Action Launcher 3
4, Launch ES File explorer - it will want to update - you can let it if you want
5, Go into the settings of ES explorer and activate 'Root Explorer'
5, Click 'Apps' from the main screen and then select 'System Apps' from the drop down
6, Locate 'Launcher3' in the list, select it and uninstall it - you'll instantly start getting Launcher 3 errors
7, Hold down the power button and select 'Reboot' - the X7 will reboot and your preferred launcher 'should' now be the default

Enjoy!

Can Beta users update immediately to the new firware? Or do we have to downgrade flash to Android 4 first? Or do we go to the same steps as with Beta flashing?

the new firmware will be pushed by OTA if you have updated to 3.0beta

there are not any different in frequency response between different firmware version, it can be tested by AP, but the SQ is different because we redesign the system and APP.

Thanks James for the information. Do you intend to make some tweaks to match the previous SQ or let it be and let users make their own adjustments via EQ? I'm OK with either option, I'm not particulary bass orientated so maybe its a matter of "brain adjust"...

Hi, i am interested in opinions on the best audiophile (sounding) music application using the new firmware

i have tried hibymusic from the market place and it did not work properly and have also tried neutron (this seemed to be restricted to 48000 output) which actually sounded not as vibrant or alive as the fiio music player (booting into fiio music rather than android).

Any suggestions for any player that sounds better (no eq) than the fio music player

thanks

Oh boy, not excited about the sound changes in the new fw. I already find the x7 a little bright for my tastes.

Ok i've found another way that seems to work well so far, requires a computer though and may be a bit too techie for some!  Really Fiio why is this so hard, its basic Android functionality??

Requirements :-

*  Factory Reset the X7 and Root it (kingroot)
*  Mini ADB - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24521665358595410 (Install to c:\adb)
* Android ADB driver - http://adbdriver.com/downloads (Install while X7 is plugged in)
* An APK of your preferred launcher - there are many websites to aquire this
Important :- rename it to Launcher3.apk and put it into the c:\adb folder

All set, here we go :-

1, Connect the X7 to the PC

2, Open a Command Prompt on your computer
3, enter cd\adb
4, enter adb devices - this should show current attached devices to the computer, it will show as a number with the word device (If nothing shows here the adb driver may not be correctly installed - do not continue unless you see the device showing)
5, enter adb root
6, enter adb push Launcher3.apk /system/app/Launcher3/Launcher3.apk wait for the file to copy fully
7, Reboot the X7 and your choice of launcher should now be default

No it isn't, there has been no change

Re beta 3,

Can anyone confirm whether time remaining is showing on the screen when a track is playing, as well as elapsed time.

It was on the screen shot which James posted a couple of months ago.

No it isn't, there has been no change

Many thanks for your reply..  Very disappointing that they couldn't be bothered, as there have been several requests.  It would be simple to add it, in common with virtually every DAP on the market

Without clicking the links provided and reading them...

Couldn't you just have both firmware .zip files saved to the X7 internal memory and install from the device by booting in download mode?

I´d like to upgrade to the beta, but it doesn´t seem possible with Apple OSX?

I also felt that with my am2 feeding my SE846 (line-out to my KSE1500 still sounds great). The SE846 sound like they've lost a bit of sub-bass. I saw FiiO's reply that FR hasn't changed, but I definitely think I hear a change. Whether I actually do or not would require another X7 to properly AB.

I find that I'm having better success using the X7 in Android mode/Neutron. 90% of the time I used pure music mode prior to the update. I listened to a few albums last night with my EL-8 (balanced) with the AM3 and it sounds as good, if not better prior to 3.0.
