Same scratching sound here when downloading an app while listening to music.
I was so waiting for the dlna activation in the fiio music app, activation that fiio confirmed to me will come in a future firmware.
Now I think I'll be disappointed with the result.

I get it, and it's too bad that some people get interference and others don't, but there are a lot of variables with WiFi and like I said earlier FiiO isn't the only device with people complaining about WiFi noise. I'm not sure that the hardware manufacturing would vary so much from unit to unit with regard to the WiFi unit and antenna. I believe it has more to do with the wide range of WiFi signals and routers than with X7 hardware variances. Of course in a perfect world there wouldn't be any issue, but there is, and it sucks, but I'm just saying its not limited to the X7. I wish there was a best solution, and especially wish FiiO had implemented better shielding, but as it is I would expect WiFi issues, but that's me, YMMV.

I also suspect that more people don't have interference than people who unfortunately do have it, but people who have negative experience are more likely to be vocal about it.

Sucks that tho from the recent pages it might look like to prospective buyers thatmost people have this problem when in reality it is a small segment, but that doesn't make it suck any less for people who do get it.

Craig did you have any interference with your unit by any chance?

With the Mojo though I can turn wifi off if I get interference(which I do) but it's not so much an issue as I didnt buy the Mojo for it's streaming abilities.

Very good point. If I buy another device like the Mojo I don't buy it for streaming purposes. However the X7 I considered in part for its streaming abilities.

Also worth mentioning is that streaming with Tidal this afternoon there was the usual static and hiss noise on initial loading of a song and the buffering but after a few seconds as the buffering was done the noise stopped. It happens again of course when I play another song and the wifi has to download again. So I guess a temporary work around until this clears is to maybe just pause the song at the beginning and wait for the buffer to download. Shouldn't have to do this but better than nothing for now.

I don't know for those who don't experience any noise if they just have a higher volume when listening to their music and masking it. Try reducing the volume and playing a quieter song so less masking. In my opinion I think all these x7 units must be same. I can't come to believe others don't have this issue. Maybe they just haven't noticed or have faster internet so the buffering is faster. If the X7 came with a faster wifi I think this issue would have been less obvious as less downloading time.

I didn't have any WiFi noise Tamal, but I also didn't use a streaming service (couldn't read the Chinese directions on the early beta FW, plus I'm an Android virgin so I didn't go there). I had WiFi on to test battery life and played music in Android mode and Pure Music mode just fine with zero WiFi noise, but again, I wasn't streaming any data. Like any WiFi application I expect the issues to be more pronounced as the signal is being used.

Just for reference though, on the AK240 I don't hear any WiFi noise when streaming from my DLNA server yet others have very bad WiFi noise. On the Mojo I didn't get any cellular noise unless I throttled down to 2G on my iPhone, then it was really bad. With 3G or LTE the Mojo picked up zero noise from my iPhone 5S.

No wifi noise when wifi on and I'm playing music stored locally on sd card. Only happens with music streaming.

For those who noticed the wifi noise issue, what router are you using. Perhaps we can try to isolate the issue. I'm have an ASUS AC68U which is an AC router. Maybe stronger signal causing the issue compared to others with N routers?

My experience is similar to kdub's, noisy when buffering but does stop after a few seconds although I don't think internet speed is an issue as my connection is around 60mbps wired and around 30-45 over wifi.

This problem may be a bigger segment of the market may be bigger once more people start using the device for streaming, I really hope Fiio find a better way of dealing with it other than telling people to turn the wifi off!!

I actually listen at lower volumes as I want to maintain awareness around me. I have had NO interference, when using spotify or Tidal, when its loading up or otherwise. Zilch, nada. No software hiccups or library issues. My X7 hasn't given me any issues as of yet *knock on wood*

The wifi signal in my room is quite weak but the X7 seems to pick it up easily and I still get no noise. My internet is decent but I am not usually near the router as I mainly use my laptop and router is downstairs, so that's really not a factor. I have a run of the mill router that my internet provided, its built in to the modem, so in reality  its actually worse than dedicated routers

Ah okay, hopefully you get to try another unit. With the google play store its much more streamlined now in terms of how easy it is to get any app you might possibly want. As a fellow android virgin its all new for me too, but with latest update its much easier to use now

Yeah, it can be hit or miss when it comes to wifi interference, but I hope its something that can be alleviated with a software work around. I didn't get to try the Mojo with my phone so I wasn't able to see if it would cause interference :p

WiFi noise OUT, K5 sound bliss IN
biggrin.gif
Got DHL Sunday delivery surprise, thanks FiiO!!!

First impression:

- lightweight but solid build, nice aluminum frame
- relatively small footprint, yet sturdy on a flat surface
- perfect and easy docking engagement with micro-usb port, solid plastic door/cover
- input and gain switches are easy to access
- volume/power wheel is big enough and easy to grip, has clear position marker, and nice blue backlight (turns red for a second when you first power up K5 while it's initializing)
- front HO is 1/4", but adapter for 3.5mm is included
- a ton of ports on the back (USB IN - cable included, another micro-usb port, RCA IN/OUT, and dual 3.5mm TRS Balanced Line Out - no cable for this one)

I did a quick test with R70x (open back 470ohms) and PM-3 and EL-8C (planar magnetic cans from Oppo and Audeze).

In comparison to X7 headphone output (w/default IEM module and fw1.5) vs X7 docked into K5, I hear:

- deeper sub-bass, more organic detailed mids, and more sparkle in treble (but not splashy)
- more transparency and better retrieval of details
- VERY noticeable soundstage expansion, now I'm hearing a true holographic 3D effect in all width/depth/height directions

If this is what we should expect from new upcoming AMP modules (mid-power and balanced) - the future is bright
wink.gif

I'm not focusing on the fw1.5 and GUI's work-in-progress, I only care about the sound at this point.  But in terms of GUI, you get a Dock icon in notification bar, and also X7 charges while docked.  One thing needs to be fixed - whenever you turn power off on K5 or remove X7 from the dock, it asks you if you want to shut down or reboot it (hitting Back dismisses that message).  Also, when you use X7 with FiiO app and plug it into the dock, you need to restart the music app - no biggie.

One thing I would have loved to see, but not going to happen because this is a finalized design - to have transport control on the front for a quick Play/Pause/Skip.  Otherwise, you need to fiddle with either hardware control buttons on X7 or the touch screen.  Bluetooth remote control will be perfect for this job!

Overall, I'm actually very impressed with K5 ($110).  I think it will be a perfect companion for those occasions when you want to chill at home with your full size cans, kicking back with 3m headphone cable
wink.gif
With R70x open back the soundstage expansion went up to a whole new level.  I think this is going to be my permanent setup to use with these cans, as long as wife and kids are not complaining about open back sound leakage

Nice! Looks sexy AF right? I love the stack, been using it all day with the sony MDR MA900 out of my Geek Out V2 as well as the X7. Cant wait till USB DAC is added so it becomes my main desktop set up. The X7 K5 stack sounds noticeably better than Geek Out V2 --> K5. Can't wait!

regarding the WiFi noise, interesting facts in my case:
- I notice the noise with my westone w10, it doesn't grow with the volume. I usually listen at volume 10 on low gain. I think these in ear phones have very low impedance.
- I can't notice any noise at all with my oppo pm-2. With these cans, I'm never under 20 on low gain. This headphones seem to have higher impedance.

Is the WiFi noise only noticeable with very low impedance phones at very low volume?

Edit
Found on Internet
- Westone w10: impedance 27ohm at 1khz
- Oppo pm2: impedance purely resistive 32ohm
I don't know if it helps my theory...

Somebody installed Tidal on the Tour X7 I've been testing, so I unexpected got to test the wi-fi ....I touched the Tidal app icon, it came up and was working, I didn't have to configure anything. In about 6 hrs of listening to Tidal, never had a single crackle, drop-out, or anything else that sounded like communications problems or interference.

By happenstance, all of my wi-fi listening was done in my normal home office chair, which is maybe 3 ft from my router.

Krack2222 could be on to something ... another feature of my listening is that I don't have any decent IEMs, so 99% of it was was using full-size cans ... all of which have substantial cables. A lot of IEMs I have seen have tiny skinny cables that look EXACTLY like the cheap throw-in FM antennae that come with mass-market stereo receivers.

Quite attractive for $110. I assume this is in USD. Now if only I can exchange my X7 unit to correct and fix this wifi noise issue.
