The hd800 bass extends well, just don't go expecting it to be a headphone with a lot of bass. Nevertheless, a Used hd800 can be had for 750usd so it's never been a better time to try it and minimize losses if you don't like it.

To a certain extent, yes. But most of it is the tuning of the pm-1. If you want the opposite of the pm-1, I would look into phones with a more u-shaped signature. He-560, lcd-x, hd800, th900, etc.
can you enlighten us how the he-560 is better than oppo pm1, as i recall 560 has not more bass and thin mids and soundstage is nothing that great, the he400 i even sounds better and full than 560, and both do not even compare to oppo pm1 at all
as for hd800 all it got is a huge sound stage but say goodbye to bass, and prepare your ears for piercing
th900 say hello as well to peircing highs and not natural sound, all its got is a bass done right but everything else sucks, never liked any fostex from all the ones I heard
lcd x I do not recall how it sounds as it was way long ago
also u need to consider one important fact, oppo pm1 has among the best mids ever, and you can add bass or treble using eq to your liking
while other headphones do not have the same magical mids as oppo pm1, and its so difficult to fix mids using eq so think about this point carefully
i eq my oppo pm1 by bumping +5 db in 60hz and 80 hz using eq and +2 in 8khz and the result is amazing, I like oppo pm1 as it responds so dam well to eq

I go into detail about my musings in the comparative review I did with them. I'm not saying he560 is a better headphone than the pm1 outright. What I am saying is that-- for my preferrences-- I like it significantly more. I value frequency extension and the sense of attack over lush midrange. Trying to disown other headphones will do no good, as everybody wants something different that different sounds cater to.

Wow. I was thinking along the lines of 1 or 2 dB's in EQ. 5 dB is a major change. I'll try your settings, as you well said, there's no easy fix for a bad midrange.

and do not be affraid the drivers of oppo pm1 do not distort that is the beauty of oppo pm1
i had lcd2 and boy i had my issues with it that costed me tons to try to fix from buying chord hugo to tons of gears , using so many softwares and eqs trying to fix what i do not like , but i did not get what i am getting with oppo pm1 and some eq on it

I have the PM-2 with PM-1 pads and also the HE-560 with the pleather pads. I drive them either with my cavalli liquid carbon but prefer them both via the HE-Adapter driven from the speaker taps of my Sony 1140 vintage amp.
The HE-560 has clearly more extended treble and with the right pads as well a lovely bottom end, however the PM-2 (or 1) does indeed have a fighting chance. The more juice you give them, the more "alive" they are. At least that is my experience.
They can be a bit lifeless and polite with some weaker amps, but give them power and they shine.

Fixing mids is the hardest thing someone can ever try to do in this entire world.
Requires hours of testing, and it is just straightforward hard to do. O PM-1 has just the right mid range and won't disappoint you, you can even add both bass and treble to it.

thats why when i test an iem or a headphone the first thing i focus on are mids, and if i find the mids lacking then immediately I disregard it. Then I test how well it responds to eq and if the drivers distorts with eq or not, and start fixing bass and highs with eq if needed

This is how I felt when testing headphones! First thing is mids. Fixing them is a hell that you sometimes don't even manage to pull through. After I find something with mids, I also start seeing what it needs / bass / treble / etc.
One thing to note is that only one thing thus far did not need any fixing on my side and that is Sennheiser ie800. Love the sound of those IEMs.
Also Senn HD600 was great! PM-1 as well. Many good headphones out there from many price brackets
There is something about the tonality itself. If it is unnatural, it is impossible to fix most of times. This is why I think PM-1 are a great choice, along with HD600, ie800, and a few others. The tonality is right by default so treble and bass fixation is quite easy if needed.
I gave Jude an Orpheus and all I got was this lousy title.

...you can take these headphones from my cold, dead hands. Yes, they came alive in a stunning way. The midrange was definitely perfect. Adding some bass and treble just was the trick. I can't imagine why Oppo tuned the headphones the way they did. I'm listening to them on my LG V10 and they now blow away all of my other headphones. THANK YOU. I now have a 1.4K flagship that sounds like it should!!!!
