I want to upgrade my beyer COP, but want something with more detail in the sound and that can fold up.  My options are V-moda m100, HFI Ultrasone 780, and Ath m50x, and I am unsure of which to choose.  I have tried to ath m50 and found that the sound was much more detailed from those headphones when comparing to the COP.

The first question to ask is "do the M50x sound the same as the M50?"
Secondly, what kind of sound sig do you like? Based on the inclusion of the V-Moda M100, I'm guessing a bass heavy sound. Personally, I think that you should go with M100, especially if durability is an important thing to you.
Dislaimer, I haven't the Ultrasone, nor the beyer you currently own. I have heard the M100 and the old M50

I do two things predominantly on my headphones, watch shows and movies, and listen to edm. The COP do not hold up detail at higher volumes which frustrate me. The old ath m50's seemed to do a much better job at that.

EDM huh? I definitely think the V-Moda's would be good choice. And they have the rumble in the low end for movies.
Try to find a place where you can try them or order through a place where returns are easy. Give them a shot.
If you don't want to risk it though, I've read that the M50x sounds like the M50 (makes sense lol), so go with those since you like them before.
Hopefully someone who has tried the Ultrasone can chime in.
Enjoy!

I would order from amazon. I like the design of the v-modas, but hope that they will be rigid in design. The COP felt too flimsy for my liking, and has lost its structure. Anyways, anyone with ultrasones, I would love for you guys to chip in.

I say the Ath-m50's would be a side-grade if anything. The v-moda's or ultrasone's would seem like the better choices.

I hear a lot of great things, but right now the ultrasone's can be found for like 250 while the v-moda can be found for 300$.  Are there other headphones in this price range that compete? I looked at the crossfade lp 570, but the m-100 would be better.

Maybe the momentum's, try looking around for more portables.

Thanks for the tip, they seem to be in line with the V-moda m-100 in design, and hopefully sq.
Do you know anything about the sony mdr headphones, are they an upgrade to beyer COP?

The HFI-780's are great for EDM!
The first thing you need to do is change out the pads for some HM5 pads from mp4nation $18 a pair shipped, much comfort.

The cups will scratch it you look at them the wrong way and the stock cable has bends in it that never come out, I modded these to have a removable cable.

You can find impressions of the higher end portables. I also recommend looking at the Beyer DT1350's, Sennheiser HD25ii, and CAL.

I would also greatly prefer removable headphone plugs.  The V-Moda M-100 is topping the list right now because they fold, but what are the cons for these headphones?  I hope that they will have the same detailed sound like the audio technica m-50 and be more versatile for watching movies.

Most portable's do have removable cables due to the ease of switching out broken cables. I think the V-Moda's M-100 would be a great choice to buy, or you could get the new V-Moda XS.
