Would appreciate assistance in choosing between Beyerdynamic DT770/250 and Sennheiser HD380 Pro!  Non-audiophile, hard-of-hearing, older person who enjoys music of a general nature and listening to tv and movies via home theater.  Grateful for any help!

I would honestly tell you to go get the Sennheiser HD 598's, although they are open back. They are very natural and good for movies and gaming because of large sound stage. Between the two you did mention, I would opt for the Beyer's. They can be had for only $150 on amazon. And they are the top of the line closed back headphones in that price range.

Tell me what you think, and feel free to inquire about any other headphone contenders.

As the poster above me said, get the HD 598's. They're wonderful and don't really require amping. You can get them at Fry's for only $150- the price has been like this for six months so far with no signs of changing. That is simply a steal.

Why those two? What's the power source (relevant to the 250 ohm Beyer)?

Yes, but keep in mind that they can only be bought in store. Click here to see if there is a location near you. But really for $150, there is no question. Get the HD's.

Many thanks to you who replied!  I recently got the 598's and concur with your opinions.  However, I want a good closed set as well.  I've begun to hear some good things about the UE 6000's; how about these or the 380's or the 770's!  Again, grateful for any response!

The DT770's are great but they a few downsides. The UE6000's aren't as good as far as sound quality, but they make up in other small things where the DT770's did not. The impendance on the Beyer's is 250 OHM's (unless your'e getting the 32 OHM's version) which is a bit harsh for portable use. But then again they have an almost 10 foot non-detachable cable. The UE's however come with a detachable cable, a nice folding design, a carrying case, and even an extra aux jack for sharing music. So the real question is, are they for home use? Or are they primarily being used on the go? The 770's do have better quality, but is it worth forgoing all that? I'm going to tell you to buy the UE6000's. For only $100 you get the entire package. I hope this set things straight.

Tell me what you think.

Thanks Halfinfinity for your responses.  I have a Fiio E11 amp.  I guess I'm looking all-arounders.  Amazon has the UE6000 for $91.00 in white right now!

Then I would go right ahead and get them. You will not be disappointed with these headphones. They look real sleek too.

Thanks; I think I will!

Question:  When I listen to 598's with Fiio E11 connection to ipod touch-5th, it sounds really good, but when I connect the 598 to my Onkyo 609 w/o the amp, it doesn't sound so good.  Should I amp up the Onkyo?  What might I be doing wrong?  Appreciate any help!!
