I have an odac. But I'm not entirely sure i want to use the o2 amp alongside it. Would it be ok to use a Schiit amp? Is there any thing wrong with such mix matches? Are there any considerable leaps in quality from the popular $100 amps to anything closer to $200 that would really be worth the stretch? I'm interested in perhaps trying something with tubes. But overall open to suggestions.

What i have now is the old penguinamp caffiene. http://www.penguinamp.com/The-Caffeine-Amp:::2008.html.

It has served it's purpose over the years for iems. And now im hoping there's something out there that sounds a little less smeared. But i dont necessarily want to do the same thing again and only get something slightly more expensive if it's really only going to be slightly better. I want something i'll be happy with for at least a year or 2 within the $200 range. These headphones in this configuration are very flat and controlled with excellent detail in all frequencies. They could use just a touch of airyness and separation if possible. Again these are expectations coming from a $50 cmoy amp thats 7 years old.

Basically my ears can tell that my amp is now the weak link in the chain. It was fine for iems. But now I can tell these orthos are wanting "something more". Simple as that basically.

I dont mind if my next amp is in another altoids tin. But i want as much sound quality packed into that tin for my $200 as possible with no need for a battery...

Thanks for listening
