I have been interested in upgrading the sound card on my laptop and want to see if its even possible first. I know that with a vehicle, if it has an branded factory audio system (bose, infinity, sony, etc.) that its more expensive and twice the work and that's where my question lies. My computer is a HP Envy DV7 7227cl with beats audio. Is it possible with Beats Audio? I cant find anything on the internet for this laptop other than memory upgrades and graphics. I would like to keep the price range somewhere between 70-120 dollars if that's even possible, thanks.

you would have to go with an external DAC as the soundcards in laptops are not replaceable.

Agreed.

Look into the Audioquest Dragonfly. It was a very popular USB DAC before they dropped the price several months ago. Here is a discussion thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/617241/audioquest-dragonfly-review-affordable-outstanding-tiny-dac-amp

Awesome! Thanks for that, ill definitely look into this, one question though. If i were to purchase a headphone amplifier such as the Fiio Mont Blanc E12, couldn't i use that on a laptop as well as my portable devices.
