Its very easy. Take off the pads by pulling on one side a bit. Then you will see a ring that holds the foam covering and drive in place. Remove the ring with the help of a small screwdriver or something similar, you will see the notch where you can stick it in to and pry it out. Then I simply put three small circles of tissue about 2 inches in diameter under the foam. And put it all back together.

And experiment maybe for your ears you only need two circle etc...

That's it!
Thanks I'll definitely give it go. Hoping they are better than my Momentum's.

I love these DT770s (250 ohm)!  I spend time every now and then researching my next closed-back headphone purchase, but I just can't imagine how much better it could get than this!  The law of diminishing returns definitely starts here...I only paid $130 for these, brand new.

So I bought these headphones a week or more ago. I tried them without a burn in, and they sounded good. The sound stage was much more open than I expected. My only comparison are AKG-301 open, ATH-A500 closed, ATH-A700 closed. Bass is not as pronounced as the ATH-700's, but it's tight and nice in comparison. Mids really shine to me. After a burn in of 20 hours, the bass felt a little improved. I really like the sound they give, and the cups are VERY comfortable. The downside to me is the band. It puts pressure on the top of my head and it hurts after a few minutes. I decided to remove the band and come up with an alternative solution.

My Audiotechnica's never hurt, so I fashioned a band that would put pressure in the same areas as them. Worked out great! I used memory foam from an old memory foam pillow that I had cut pieces out of before for other projects. The cushions are nice and soft.

You can see my headband mod here.

There's allot to like about dt770 but I find the clamping force a bit much also don't care for the feel of the velour pads. Has anyone here tried stretching the headband to try loosening it.

If it's any help, the headband mod I did relieves some of the clamping pressure put around the ears. The pressure is now distributed on the pads and the modded pillows. It's an easy mod to put together. I'm sure you could disconnect the cups, take out the Y cup holder pieces, head the center of the Y with a propane torch to make it softer, then bend a little bit. It might mess up the black paint. I'd head it from the inside to reduce the discoloration.

The headband is malleable steel.  Bend the cups outwards little by little until the fit is loose enough for you.

I recently attempted to stretch the headband out because the clamping force was too much to bear (I never had trouble with my previous pair of headphones, Shure SRH840), but now the system bows seem to be a bit loose. I enjoy the sound of the DT770s, but the clamping force and jaw pain associated with it likely mean I'll be looking to sell them and find a different pair of cans.

Looking for information about these cans' roominess and comfort.

I've got a new pair of Audio Technica ATH M50x's right here that I'll probably send back after about a week of use. Inside of an hour they make my ears throb. The tops and bottoms of my ears feel pinched and cramped inside the small pads. My ears are just above 2 and 1/2 inches top to bottom. It's totally distracting from the sound which I like pretty well.

What kind space do the DT 770's pads provide? If they're are too small, can I get recommendations for some other cans that will fit?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks a ton.

Well your top to bottom ear legnth is fine, but how far out from the rest of your head do your ears stick out?  That's what will make the difference.  Even DT770 might end up lacking cup depth for you.

My ears stick out to the left and right about 1 and a quarter inches. Thanks, btw.

You'll probably have to consider audio-technicas with angled drivers and thick pads.  Look into the Axxx Art Monitor (closed-back headphones) series or ADxxx Air Dynamic series (open-back).  If the stock earpads on those Art Monitors are too thin, try Brainwavz HM5 pads with them.  You'll stretch the pads to get them on with a little difficulty, but those pads can take it. My AKG K553 sues earpads as big as those audio-technicas and I stretched a pair of Brainwavz pads onto them perfectly.  I've got another pair on my ATH-A2000X, but its cups are actually a little smaller than the rest of the Art Monitors.
